Miles Per Gallon

My K16, most of the time 2 up, I get 52mpg

My Sprint GT, says it’s doing 55mpg. I haven’t reset it since I bought it last autumn so I can’t claim any personal mileage figures.

Given the penchant for manufacturers to inflate their figures (I had a hybrid that clained to get around 100mpg) I wonder how accurate that 55mpg is. I’ll reset it and start logging petrol and mileage for comparison.

On all my Triumphs, I have found the display average mpg to be fairly accurate when I manually calculate it at the pump.

My Speedy has shown over 60mpg on the screen for all my Scotland trips, and usually about 50odd. Some spirited riding and general messing around.

Haven’t a clue, if I start thinking about that I might ride less often (or slower).
All I need to know is the Triumphs are usually good for about 150mls before looking for petrol, the nearer 200 it gets means I’ve either not been enjoying myself enough, or I’m pushing my luck and will soon be pushing the bike.
The S1000XR will comfortably do 200+ per tank.

Edit: Had a look on the fancy TFT on my S1000XR… 53.2mpg apparently.

All I know is that my Speed Triple has used one tank full in the last 8/9 months….
Feckin shite spring and early summer again…!

I had the nice surprise with my Mitsubishi pickup to be able to have a lower consumption than the makers specs (driving down from Scotland to Birmingham). Knowing where is the max torque of the engines probably helps. But yes, 90% of the time I’m above the announced numbers.

Mrs V, I think you are being a tad optimistic with 3 to 4 kg for riding kit as extra over “normal” attire.

Next time I fire the Striple up I will take a note as I know we both have the same machine.

Yes I was a bit, just weighed what I wore today and it was 5.3 kg including helmet!

My 9T is doing around 45mpg when I wring its neck, on average going fast is low 50s and when in a group of flower viewers probably late 50’s.
The bike it indirectly replaced was a Rockster R1150R and that was shite at 35mpg. My F800gt ‘steppingstone’ bike was early 60’s.
