New rims for the new build

I’m slowly getting spares together for a Triumph build. (this one is about two builds away but spares today may not be available tomorrow and even if they are, they’ll be more expensive).

This is an ally 18" 40 hole shouldered rim from Italy. I wanted a wider rim (this is a WM5 or 3.00 inch wide rim). Standard rear would be 18" WM3 or 2.15 inch but I’m going wide on this build for 130 flat track racing tyres.
Non standard alloy rims like these would be in excess of £200 each here. But I ordered this one for just over £100 (including delivery etc) from these guys:

I only ordered one rim (to try and keep costs under the import limit) and to see what they are like.
Got delivered overland so took a couple of weeks but I’ve gotta say they look and feel pretty bloody good.

So, I’ll be ordering the front rim to match from these guys. I’m ordering another 18" for the front (standard on a T140 is 19") and keeping it wide. It’ll give a quicker turn in with the smaller front wheel. Brrrrrrrm…over :slightly_smiling_face:

How does the tax system work now, when ordering from abroad… is there chance of sneaky charges?

Import VAT is applied and asked for before delivery but I believe suppliers in EU apply the VAT at their end. Import duty is then only applied to goods above a total of £135, the duty depends on what type of goods they are.
I only ordered one rim to keep the value of the goods below the £135 limit. I really didn’t know what was going to happen and was crossing my fingers that I wouldn’t get a bill from the carriers before delivery. But it went through customs and got delivered earlier than expected.

So, now that worked, I’ll order the front rim and keep my fingers crossed.

However, given that these rims are now getting to £250 ish each here, even if 20% VAT was applied I’d still be £200 better off for both rims. Here’s a price list from 2022:

The row on the far right is for Alluminiumiumium.
