Not quite a New Triumph Owner

Hi, I’m Ian from Telford getting on a bit but not too old to own a new 400 (The fast blue one!). I’ve had Bonnevilles, and Street Twins since 2009, some brilliant but a couple not so good.
I’m enjoying this small single but then I have owned Yamaha thumpers for nearly 25 years!
I have owned the new Triumph since May but have made the odd changes since owning it. I’ll take a couple of photos when I get chance.
It’s one of those bikes that you can go into the garage and just look at it and have that sense of “je ne sais quoi”

Hi Ian and welcome :grinning:

Hi and welcome.

Welcome, bienvenue

Welcome to the forum. It looks like these new 400’s are proving to be something of a success for Triumph.

Welcome in to the mini friendly club. Any pics? I test rode a 400 recently and it was a hoot on the open roads!!

Hi and welcome to the forum :sunglasses:

Welcome, those 400s are certainly good looking bikes!

Welcome aboard, Ian.

Hello from a fellow Speed 400 owner… but… the really fast red one!

Very smart!

Thanks @Vulpes & @ajc400 :+1:
I have just received the rear sprocket blank (-3T)
Will machine it to suit next week. 69 bore and 6, 8.2 dia holes on 110 pcd. I will check these figures when I take the original off.

Sorry if I missed a comment somewhere, but it looks like you are going to try changing the gearing on your 400 - I’ll be interested to see how that goes. I read, or saw a video somewhere, that said dropping a few teeth on the rear sprocket should drop about 500rpm at highway speeds, although possibly at the expense of a bit of “oomph” lower down the rev range. I hope I got that the right way round…

Bike looks great… even in blue!! :joy:

Yes Alex, I am hoping to alter the gearing. As you are well aware, 1st gear is far too low. I have done all the calculations and theoretically this should do what I want it to do(drop the revs by about 500rpm in 6th gear). But having said that, it’s only theory at mo. I will let you know how I get on👍
