Ponderosa, Horseshoe Pass, Wales [closed until further notice]

I’ve never been myself but it looks like it won’t be reopening, at least in the immediate future

It is with a heavy heart we announce that the Ponderosa shall not be re-opening at this present moment in time.
We would like to take this opportunity and thank our loyal customers. There are many other cafes you could have chosen but you chose us and for that we are deeply grateful.
A big heartfelt thank you goes out to the biking community for their unflinching support through many ups and downs during the years that we have been at the Ponderosa.
We would also like to thank our staff, past and present. We could not have accomplished our success without you and would like to express our deep sense of gratitude to each and everyone of you.
Your hard work, dedication and resilience have not gone unnoticed.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the wonderful past 42 years.
Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for any future updates.
Yours faithfully
Simon & Sam Clemence.

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this Saul @Octoberon ?

I’ll put it in the ‘Places to Go’ and mark it as closed.

Their website doesn’t mention that they’re closing. That’s going to disappoint a few people.

I had a quick look on facesbook (I can’t see much as I’m not allowed) - an old photo of the cafe (probably before it was called ponderosa) loads of choices for your throats sake - blimey, how times have changed

I also noticed this comment alongside

The latest rumour is the owner has been arrested for something.

Shame as it was a great meeting place. I used to go most weekends for many years. Less so as north Wales police started with their clamp down with speed cameras and the 50mph across the moors.
The last straw for me was when then slapped the 40 mph zone from the bottom to the top of the pass near the Ponderosa :frowning:
Haven’t been over there for a long while now.

Based on my experience maybe he was passing off soap as sausage…

I wonder if part of the problem, if it’s economic, is a downturn in custom with bikers disincentivised by the police enforcement on the roads.

I think that is part of the problem, but I think there is more going on in the background if the rumours are to believed. Be interesting to see what comes out :+1:

We had been a few times since the speed limits were lowed, and the place was still packed.

Unfortunately the rumours are true about cafe. He is not the current owner, but still has shares in it.

Sounds like he was passing his sausage around too much and in inappropriate places…

I believe he’s the father of the current owner

Shameful behaviour.
