Property Fraud

Of like me you’ve bought your house since the late 1980s your property deeds will be held online at the Land Registry.

There have been cases recently where owners have been defrauded out of their property without them knowing.

By using the link below you can sign up for free with the land registry for England and Wales and get email notifications if there’s any activity on your property deeds.

Seems silly not to.

If you create an account, it will then ask you for the property address you want to watch. If it lists your house and you are able to add it to your watch list then your deeds are held by them online and the paper original ones in your possession are probably really just for reference now - mine were originally paper when it was built in 1989 but got transferred to the land registry at some point - probably when I transferred my mortgage, which I did a couple of times to get a better deal. When I paid my mortgage off the building society sent me the originals which are useful in case you need to find out which is your fence etc.

If you have paid off your mortgage and they are online it’s important you do this Joe as there’s no bank/building society intetested in your property anymore to watch out for any suspicious activity👍

It’s also important to consider who is on the deeds and if it’s joint tenants or tenants in common if you own it jointly with your wife and what type of will you have as this can effect what happens should you have to go in care in later life and run out of cash to pay your care costs
