He starred in “On any Sunday” alongside Steve McQueen etc. A film I rewatch from time to time to remind me why I like bikes and the people that are around them.
About a week ago a remastered version of the Malcolm Smith parts of the film was released on utube.

the BSA team (I think this is the following year 1971 - the rider’s finishing place is their number the following year). No.2 Jim Rice (no. 24 in the film) had a bad crash at the end of his qualifier but got out of the ambulance with a strapped up face (broken nose) to race in the final - he was too banged up to be competitive. No.4 Dick Mann (no. 2 in the film) cut off his cast from his broken left leg so he could race the final - he didn’t finish due to pain. No.3 Dave “Bones” Aldana (no. 38 in the film) had a reputation for crashing and walking away, he walked from a write-off again in the final.
