They were the days

Our local rag, which is awful, has dug up some old biking photos due to Dave Day making everyone fall in love with bikes (yeah right).
Some strange goings on :grinning:

I wish people still dressed the same as they did back then!

There’s nothing stopping you :grinning:

Big-port AJS?

I think so. I was trying to identify the exact model when we went to the National Motorycle Museum. He worked for AJS as an engineer and development rider.

That one has a flat tank, while it looks to me as though Mrs V’s Grandad’s bike had a saddle tank. Google Images has a photo of a saddle tank model, which it says is 1929. Flat tanks did generally give way to saddle tanks around the late 20s.
I’d love to ride one.

We found, after dad had passed, he was a dispatch rider during the war, that he had penned a few pages of his memories during the war. I also have a few photos, mainly pre war of him on his various machines.

This is just a snippet from his notes “ I entered Victoria Street from the Westminster end (London area run) just as a bomb blew the front out of the building on the right. I was covered in glass and other muck but managed to stay upright so got back home OK.”

And we moan about potholes  just goes to show the character of the population during those trying times.
