Keeping the animal theme - out of control dogs, friendly or not. Went for my run this morning and got jumped all over by an out of control huge doodle type dog. I could see it was really excitable so stopped running at the point it was going utterly bonkers as it was absolutely not going to respond to it’s owner. Unfortunately it jumping up again and again resulted in cut legs for me from it’s claws and a tear in my running tights.
I probably lose a pair of running tights a year to dogs’ claws and it pisses me off .
The owner was really apologetic and I didn’t notice the torn tights until I had run on a bit and looked down as my legs were stinging, so I doubt she noticed either - at first look it just merged with all of the mud and paw prints the dog had covered me in.
I am a HUGE fan of dogs but they have to be under control; I always made a big effort with ours to ensure they didn’t negatively impact upon anyone else.
You are not alone, apart from the fact I don’t wear tights in winter but ronhill trackster/bikesters which are more resilient to dog jumps but still get muddy paw prints. I run off road in an urban area with parkland and fields turned over to us in mitigation for new builds. If I see dog walkers I change my route. so I’m constantly doing that. I can’t always avoid them and some dogs are lovely and just want to play which I’m happy to do. At my age and fitness any excuse to stop running is gladly taken. But I have had a few over the year that are aggressive and will run 100yds or more to ‘greet’ me! Recently a ridgeback did the long run getting more agressive as it got closer, man they are big and scary looking dogs. It’s south african owner was just laughing saying it was only wanting to play and wouldn’t hurt us… oh how we laughed.
We have had two Ridgebacks but I was always very aware that people could be intimidated by them so always put them on leads whenever dogs or people were in the vicinity and if the path was narrow got them to sit off to the side.
I am lucky in that my trail runs are usually deserted for many miles once I am through the first field or two on one of my routes which is the local dog - walking “loop”. I do know most of the dogs I encounter and they are largely fine but there is a lady that walks four, one of which is aggressive and has no recall and requires you to stand absolutely still in order to not get bitten until she comes to collect it as it stares at you growling and a couple of iffy ones that you need to be cautious around.
It is usually the friendly ones that leave me with cuts and torn clothes to be honest from jumping and scrabbling at me.
I have 5 dogs, and inevitably they act as a pack. I have two dogs that react to other dogs, ie they run up to see other dogs and bark, not aggressively, just saying hello but I understand that some other dog owners may not like this- although most people that walk their dogs where we go (up on the beacons-mountains and large forestry) go to let their dogs run free as we do and are cool.
We don’t walk in parks or urban areas where you’re more likely to come across lots of people or the half hour dog “walkers” that just drag them out for a shit.
My dogs never react to people or would think to jump up on anyone ever.
This came up on my YouTube feed. I cant watch it as I don’t pay the BBC their licence fee so I took a screenshot. This is more than annoying, I find it quite disturbing that anyone who dares speak up about the ‘refugee’ situation is labelled as far-right! It’s disgusting
The truth is (I think) the vast majority of people in the UK want an end to uncontrolled immigration. We expected to be able to control our borders after Brexit but the government has yet again proved to be completely useless while the BBC continues spouting it’s woke agenda.
the point is every far right people are against immigration, but not all people against immigration are far right.
And honestly in that kind of demonstration most of the people there are far right.
We came from the Republic of Ireland in 1967 to the UK as technical economic migrants. My father fought for the British army in WW2 alongside 6 of his brothers, but after the war the Republic operated an unofficial embargo on returning “British” troops. It was impossible for my father and his brothers to get any meaningful work at his own trade, he was a skilled stonemason and his brothers were all in the building trade yet they ended up labouring and working day to day unloading at Dublin docks.
He never ever claimed a penny from the UK, no benefits, social housing or anything, they set up their own contruction company and employed British people and I am so proud of what he achieved. I don’t care where you’re from or what you feel you deserve, i cannot abide people who are too lazy to work and feel the world owes them a living. There are literally millions of migrants who helped to build Britain, and literally millions of feckless brits too lazy to get a job.
I believe the Skegness protest was organised by The Patriotic Alternative though who are an extreme far right organisation. Their leader is a prominent ex - BNP member who has openly stated that he is a neo - nazi and the party believe in white supremacism.
I believe absolutely in the right to peaceful protest in the UK but I am also pretty terrified by the rise in far right ideology at present. We cannot allow people’s concerns around immigration issues to give the far right more and more traction in my opinion; it’s dangerous.
Maybe the far right term was justified in that case then, I cant watch the video. It doesn’t chnge my opinion of the bbc though, I didn’t see any mention of the reason behind the recent liverpool protest after an underage girl was propositioned by one of the young men in one of the hotels. I believe they were also labelled as far right.
I think the issue is that any advertised protest initially organised by concerned “ordinary” residents is subsequently attended by far - right groups as well as often counter - protesting anti - fascist groups as was the case in Knowsley. As soon as proportionate and legitimate concerns and peaceful protests are shared on social media they often get swallowed up by well - organised and well - funded organisations. They will ensure that the media are given their narrative as they are slick and media - aware (see Tommy Robinson for an example) and unfortunately everyone who attends is apportioned in the media as belonging to one faction or another when they in fact may not have any association.
I am not saying that peaceful protest sparked by legitimate concerns should not be allowed, I very much believe that it should; just that social media facilitates the hijacking of any occasion by those with extremist views and tactics.
Anyway it was the bbc I was annoued about. I believe if we can help genuine migrants, we should. Be we all know that is not the case. Its an issue close to my heart and it does bother me. We should put our own first I reckon. We have a big homeless problem, they dont het offered hotels and benefits. My own brother was in this situation, left to die on the street on a cold February morning with no help from anybody. He was only 27! And here I am paying 200 quid a week in taxes while watching our government house the ones that shouldn’t be here
