“Yeah, so I finally got around to adjusting the valve clearances on the KLR650. You wouldn’t believe it, the intake was off by like .03 millimeters. Spec calls for 0.10 to 0.15, and mine was sitting at 0.07. I had to swap in a 2.60mm shim—luckily I had a spare from when I did the DR650 a couple years back. Funny enough, the exhaust side was fine. I mean, the cam lobe wear was negligible, maybe a light score mark, probably from dry starts when I was using 10W-30 instead of 10W-40. I’ve switched to Rotella T6 since then, which honestly holds up better at high temps, especially in air-cooled singles.”
