Got three things done today; an Mot, a nice wee ride and a first outing for some new gloves. The MoT went smoothly as expected. It was done by Allan Macdonald in Dumfries, who is an all-round nice guy, very knowledgeable about everything to do with bikes, an ex-TT rider and former winner of the Manx Grand Prix. It’s always a pleasure to chat with him.
MoT over, I had a couple of hours free, so I headed westwards along the Old Military Road to Castle Douglas, then up to one of my favourite roads, from Laurieston to Gatehouse of Fleet. A lovely single-track road over the hills, emerging high above the Fleet Valley.
After Gatehouse, I headed homewards along the A75 at a brisk pace, keeping a good lookout for the dreaded camera van (duly spotted in good time on the Castle Douglas by-pass). A very enjoyable little run.
It also gave my new Held gloves their first outing. I just bought them last week online from Sportsbikeshop, ordered on Saturday and delivered on Sunday. I wanted unlined summer gloves to replace my old faithful Hein Gericke gloves which have served me well for at least 25 years but are now starting to wear out. I also wanted gloves which would fit over my jacket sleeves, which a lot of summer gloves won’t do. Anyway, the Held gloves were a bit pricy, but very nice quality and a perfect fit for me. They were very comfortable, so I was well pleased with them.
