Today I have mostly been

On my way to an appointment in Kirkcudbright this afternoon, I saw a real timewarp machine parked in the street: a 1950s Ariel Twin attached to a large sidecar. In unrestored condition, it looked exactly like the well-used sidecar outfits that were still providing low cost family transport when I was growing up in the 50s and 60s. Unfortunately, I was late for my appointment and couldn’t stop to get a photo, but it was great to see something so original and authentic still fulfilling its original function 70 years on. If that’s not sustainability, I don’t know what is.

Well done. Can we expect aerial photos now?

Today I have mostly been aching…

Yesterday SWMBO’s StreetTrip got it’s new headbearings fitted, proved to be a bit more challenging than expected. The crap angular contact bearings Triumph (& others) insist on fitting have a very shallow outer race, combine that with a heavy press fit (perhaps our frame was machined on bottom limit) and they’re a bitch to extract. Anyway nice new taper roller bearings in there now. Had the new outers in the freezer but still required significant “persuasion”. :slightly_smiling_face:

It means I can fly any multi rotor drone up to 25kgs beyond visual line of sight out to 2000m

That’s a fair lump! For work or pleasure?

It was a work run thing but figure it could be a useful skill when I retire

Went to Thunder in the Glens, in Aviemore, today.

Normally a great day out and this year didn’t disappoint dispite the weather, it was really coming down. I normally spend a couple of hours looking around or join the ride out, a huge snake of of a thing that takes up to 1/2 an hour to pass. I did book for the weekend in 2020 which was cancelled, so I’ve not experienced the full thing.

The very start of the run.

They stopped all traffic for 30 mins which I didn’t see any need for, so I had timé for a coffee. The plan was to hang around till I got bored then head to Oban, stay the night and do the same thing in reverse tomorrow.
So here I am.

Stopped in Ballachulish for a bum break, a map check, and some thing to eat. When I saw the cafe sign I did not expect this.

Bike has been excellent.

Now I must leave you…

For me Ballachulish always meant “nearly home”. Beautiful larches next to the bridge.

Today I have a day off work and the big yellow thing in the sky that I have a distant memory of being called “the sun” was out - so I had a nice 120 or so miles blast about on the Fireblade. Can’t say that the sun was a persistent presence and of course I got rained on briefly (wouldn’t be summer 2023 without, surely???) but it was a lovely trip out all the same. I am appalling at stopping for photos as I just like to keep going when I am enjoying a particular road or scenery - just got one when I stopped for a drink. I am VERY pleased to report that all wildlife steered clear of me today .

More running in miles on the TNT. Sunshine until I just got in the house when it started raining  300+ miles down

I had a run into Shropshire on the tiger today. Lovely day out with minimal traffic on the a49 and a41, which made my ride even more pleasant. Called at my local for couple pints of Black Sheep before heading for home. Lush :grinning:

Coming home late last night, there was a huge yellow full moon in the sky, giving lots of light. It reminded me of an old Irish verse which I have always liked:

“Good luck to the Moon for a fine noble crature
Which gives us its light every night in the dark,
While the Sun only shines in the day, when by nature
There’s no need at all, as yez all may remark.”

I like that; very apt with the supermoon tonight.
