Triumph 800 something or other…

It seems Triumph are about to launch an 800cc version of something.

It could be a new Street Triple (Speed Triple 800?) or
An entry level Tiger 900 (badged 800) or
An upgraded more powerful Trident/Tiger Sport

It’s most likely to be the Street Triple, but if it was a new Tiger Sport 800 that would be quite timely for me as I may well be in the market for such a thing next Spring.

I can feel my bank account quivering…

I would be most surprised if it were because it would have to fit between the Street Triple at 128.2 bhp and the Speed Triple at 177.5 bhp. Likewise with the parallel twins, just can’t see a gap for it.

Could it possibly be a single?

Could be just an “upgrade” to an existing engine to get through the latest EU emissions? I see Kawasaki have increased their z1000 platform to an 1100cc engine for this very reason

It does look like an 800 tourer, so replacement for the Tiger Sport 660? That would suit me. We’ll find out Monday.

So it is a Tiger Sport 800, although it seems that the Tiger Sport 660 is also going to remain and the Tiger 850 is being dropped.

The spec looks pretty good -
Fully adjustable suspension (not electronic but that doesn’t bother me)
Cruise control
Quickshifter

Heated grips, hand guards and TPMS are options as is luggage and a centre stand.

113bhp and 62 lb/ft are useful hikes over the 660, so performance will be more than adequate for a touring road bike. It weighs 214kg wet.

I can’t see T-Plane crank mentioned anywhere so hopefully it has the nice smooth version of the triple.

The only disappointing element for me is that it retains the Trident instruments - not a deal breaker in this instance, but I was hoping they would adopt the Tiger TFT which is far nicer.

Price is £11k plus options.

Available March 2025 - just in time for next season. I’m definitely interested.

I like it in yellow

Looks well does that!

I like the T-plane on my 1200 - don’t know what it’s like on the smaller displacement bikes?

To me it looks like a minor tweak to the 660, surprised they’re keeping the 660 going. I’m still waiting for a slightly bigger (physically) 1200.
I guess the 800 is aimed at 30/40 somethings, fitter and smaller than myself and SWMBO.
That pillion perch and panniers look too minimalist for us oldies to spend a few weeks touring on.
Could do with a longer swing arm too, load that top box up and you’re going to be pulling a few wheelies.

I quite liked it as well on my Tiger 900 - it sort of had a nice adventure bike vibe (literally!) to it. But on a pure road bike with no off-road pretentions, I prefer the smoother triple engine. I also found the vibrations on T-Plane 900 became a bit intrusive through the bars and pegs when travelling at 70+ mph.

I think the 800 engine in the 660 frame could be the ideal tourer for me, I find the larger bikes too much of a chore to manoeuvre around.

In an ideal world I’d have liked a tourer based on the Speed Triple 1200, but if that ever happened then it would be significantly more expensive, and the 800 will deliver all the performance I would need or want on the road.

I’m a solo tourer, so the smaller panniers will suit me fine. I think I’m talking myself into placing an order

With the improved 2024 design those are nearly gone - not entirely, obviously it’s still an ICE. I don’t find that an issue anymore.

I really enjoy the " bobbobbobop" sound when you give it the beans…:smiley:

The new 800 tiger sport looks great. Interesting that the 113bhp is more power than the 2024 900 gt pro?

But less than a Street765 (does have a smidge more torque though).

No problem for me on my 900 GT Pro. It feels like it’s alive!

Order placed for a yellow one, subject to seeing and riding it. It’s scheduled for March 2025 delivery which suits me fine as it’s a bike for next season.

In addition to the standard spec of a quickshifter, cruise control and Bluetooth, I’ve added panniers and heated grips.

I was previously seriously considering a Tiger Sport 660 as a smaller touring bike for next year, but on paper at least, this looks a much better option.

The only alternative bike I could think of as a proper rival was the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT but when I configured one up it was over £3k more than the Tiger. The only other similar sized alternative was the BMW F900XR, which configured came out almost identical to the Tiger, but isn’t nearly as desirable in my opinion and it’s only a Twin!

I bought a new Tracer 7 GT in March because of the absence of a bike like this new Tiger 800. I am very tempted based on this colour scheme because Black and Yellow is right up my street. :sunglasses:

I went for the yellow, but the black was my alternative choice. It does look good in black :+1:
