Triumph Trident 660

Any Trident 660 owners or experience on the forum? Anything to watch out for?

It is on my cousin’s list of possible next bikes, downsizing (slightly!) from a Street Triple 765, although it might just be to have a new bike when her husband and I have got new toys this year!!

This is exactly what my mrs. did, and she loves it! The Street Triple was just a bit too much to handle for her, and the Trident was just the ticket. Docile in low revs, quite lively higher up in the rev range. It gave her lots of confidence. And it’s pretty to boot!

Did @Joe have one?

Yes i did have one. It seemed to lose oil for no reason so sold it.

Hmmm… that’s not so good.

Were there any signs of where the oil may be escaping?

I did a quick search and this came up…

“A few owners have experienced excessive oil consumption, with some bikes requiring engine rebuilds due to leaking cams, according to a Reddit thread”

Other than that presumably warrantied repair, there don’t seem to be any significant problems with the 660.

Unless someone knows different!

I had the 660 sport and it did use oil; lots of oil. Triumph said that it was industry standard for an engine to use 1litre of oil every 1000 miles. I have never had any bike that did this, so like @Joe I sold it.

Interesting - my son in law had a high spec Audi A4 which went through oil at a terrible rate, like quite a few VW/Audi cars, and got a similar excuse, industry standard (although in USA it became a class action and I believe VW/Audi paid out).

He had to sell that car at a horrible loss. I later read that it was the modern short pistons letting oil pass the piston rings, that’s my recollection anyway, a design/production fault.

I don’t think either of us will have another VW/Audi!! :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I had the same problem with an Audi A5 2.0 petrol. It drank more oil than fuel. Eventually got it fixed under warranty. Last Audi I ever owned ..!

No not a sign as you would expect.
