Tunnel closures between France and Spain

Should anyone be planning crossing the Pyrenees in the next few months, storm floods have caused landslips leading to closure of the tunnels on the Somport pass and Bielsa-Aragnouet route. Somport looks like being closed into next year. Check before you travel folks! :slightly_smiling_face:

That’s the pass I used to meet up with @Wessa 2 years back. Didn’t use the tunnel mind.

I did use the tunnel on that trip. Lazy me lol :slightly_smiling_face:

Lives long in my memory!
Many years ago touring the Pyrenees, a lengthy circular route from our hotel in Broto turned in to a VERY long day, just road works in this case (and my limited understanding of temporary road signs in Spanish :slightly_smiling_face:). This meant a late return to the hotel, so late the restaurant was closed just to add insult to injury.
A closed tunnel can lead to a HUGE detour in this area.
The hotelier just said “Oh yes sir, you should always check the tunnels each morning before leaving”.
Experience gained, lesson learnt!

I like Broto. Like Matlock Bath in the Pyrenees. Had two nights there last September and hiked a bit of Monte Perdido. Stopped there on the bike too. Lovely area. :slightly_smiling_face:
