UK stickers for riding in Europe

Adding a robin is very reminiscent of a typical Allen Millyard YouTube, you haven’t got any nighttime footage of a hedgehog have you? :+1:

Regarding the UK sticker, you’re right that it’s legally required for Spain, and myself I’ve searched and sadly failed to find any specifications suggesting a smaller size for motorcycles. The official car size looks huge on most motorcycles, at the other extreme you’ll see surprisingly small ones on the ferry with packaging claiming legallity.
I compromised by fitting a “reasonable” sized sticker that would still fit on the lower half of my top box.
On the ferry there was a full range from (surprisingly) many with none at all through to the full size, I would say the majority had various sizes somewhere between.
Obviously it’s a personal decision depending how risk averse you are, I didn’t have or see any problems, police could easily pull everyone at passport control if they had a mind to, but didn’t see any of that. Equally you can find tales of persecution on the 'net, so who knows. :slightly_smiling_face:

More importantly our thoughts are with those in the Valencia disaster at the moment.

I did a search too. Only documentation I could find is the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic. Which says in Annex 3

On motor cycles and their trailers, the dimensions of the axes of the ellipse shall be at least 0.175 m ( 6.9 inches) and 0.115 m (4.5 inches).

On other motor vehicles and their trailers, the dimensions of the axes of the ellipse shall be at leasts
(a) 0.24m (9.4 inches) and 0.145m (5.7 inches) if the distinguishing sign comprises three letters;
(b) 0.175m ( 6.9 inches) and 0.115 m (4.5 inches) if the distinguishing sign comprises less than three letters.

As I had to make something to mount sticker anyway, thought I’d go for the correct size.

I (and @Wessa ) ignored the whole sticker issue a couple of years ago, and no problem at all.

Well done, you got further than I. :slightly_smiling_face:
So that seems to confirm it should legally be the same as cars.
As said, it depends on your priorities how you decide. I’m far to vain to spoil the bike with one of those.
I did also contact a tour operator guy that lives near me (https://magellanmotorcycletours.co.uk/) that has experience of Spain, he also said “never had a problem”.

I’m pretty vane too, making and painting a bracket just for use in Spain

Guess I could just use a small sticker and have the big one with my paperwork to use if it became a problem, will see how it looks when on bike.

I think an oval sticker with my everyday plate would look nicer anyway, rather than the original plate with blue country code squeezed into corner like I put back on for recent continental trips.

Yeah, I have the blue UK in the number plate for the rest of Europe. I think Spain is just getting their own back for not getting Gibraltar in the Brexit deal. :joy:
Nice people though, love bikes. :+1:

I have used the small gb or uk stickers on all my bikes when I have been into Europe.

Never had any problems?

Edit: You can get them on the internet

Yes, for the rest of EU the blue Uk’s are all that’s needed to be legal. Sadly not so for Spain.
(See a car with the white UK oval on the boot and you know they’ve been to Spain for their hol’s )

Well @Vulpes and I must have been lucky, as we were in Spain for days and never had any issues.

The legal size stipulated by the United Nations Convention for Country of Origin (UK) stickers is for cars. No size has been specified for motorbikes  Just spent 12 days riding around Spain and a bit of Portugal from Bilbao to Jerez and back (4 days each way) and the final round of WSBK and had no problem with a small oval one on my top box :sunglasses:

I assume this was post Brexit? (And I assume Wim was on a UK reg at the time?). You’re not alone, I saw perhaps 20% or more without one on the Santander ferry last year. Virtually all cars had one.

Do I have to fit a SCO sticker next time I go to Carlisle?

Mine.

Not full size, but sensible IMO.
(What a sad/boring subject to be rattling on about. :joy:)

Nope, Dutch reg, so I really have no point…

Ont the subject of UK stickers I’ve just come back from Germany this morning on the ferry from Rotterdam, used a small uk sticker on the end of my number plate on my van as it came as a pair and the front one (so called) has gone on my bike as it was cheaper to do it that way than buy two MASSIVE ugly ones at double the price.
