Universal Front Paddock Stand

I was given this as a gift, and it is a strange one - it has one height adjustable support bracket ( a threaded rod) and one fixed, where any others I have seen are two matching fixed height supports.

I can’t get it to lift!

I have adjusted the supports, but when I try to lift the front end, the adjustable bracket just turns around, moving the forks with it. I don’t think I am missing anything and wonder if it is the wrong type of lift for my (single front disk) bike. Anyone got one of these SportsBikeShop supplied Bad Dog stands?

Any advice appreciated!!

I have a similar one, but without the threaded bar. I’ve used it for the last 9 years on 3 GS’ and now my 1250RS without any real issues until the last time I used it. That time the forks turned as I attempted to lift the front of the bike and the RH fork leg swivelled off the 2 rubber coated lifting pins. I put it down to my drive being uneven at that particular point, putting all the load on 1 side of the paddock stand so there was no pressure on the other, allowing the bars to turn. I also normally use a couple of thin steel baking sheets under the wheels to allow the bike to lift smoothly on my tarmac drive but didn’t use then that time so that could have contributed to the problem. I ended up holding the one bar end as I lifted the bike to prevent the bars from turning, it worked but I would want to do that every time.

That threaded adjustment is the puzzle, free to rotate, no locknut or anything like that to keep it in position. I’ve done a quick search on the internet, and haven’t seen any others like that.

I’ve asked Sportsbikeshop, so we’ll see what they say… if I actually get a reply!

My rear stand is solid, but must admit the front fittings felt a bit hit and miss.

I have a similar front paddock stand and I find if the wheel/forks are not perfectly straight the forks do have a tendency to move. If all is aligned the wheel comes up fine.

After a bit of temporary bodging I got the stand at the right height and working - I just need to bolt or weld the rotating part in place for a permanent solution.

If you are buying a front stand though, I’d avoid any with one height adjustable leg.
