Valves and guides

I got a bit fed up with trying to wind in the guides with Norman Hyde’s special tool. So reverted to the original method using loads of fire, a drift and bashing in with a large hammer.
As John (pewsey or lunmad), such a great bloke, I miss him, said “If you can bash a nail in without bending it, you should be able to hammer in a valve guide” as he was using a lump hammer to insert the guides on his Bonny.

Was looking forward to trying out my new lapping tool but then remembered I’ve run out of paste. Halfords in the morrow then.

If it works it’ll be brill. If it doesn’t…well, I’ll revert to the firestarting method :expressionless_face:

Don’t buy one. They don’t work. Just like everything else from China. I wish suppliers would say where their stuff is made.
I remember when goods from Japan were so bad they had to be stamped “JAPAN” so we had a clear choice. Either spend cheap and risk a one use piece of shitty tin or to support properly paid workers who were producing stuff that actually worked and lasted, at least, for a few uses.
Why would anyone actually choose to buy Chinese (or Indian come to that) if there is something else available?
