And brandy in his bidon, reportedly…
Nice pictures Paul! Sure you’ll enjoy the Verdon. At the top you’ll probably have a chance to see some eagles.
The “Lac de Sainte Croix” is also very nice. a village is drown there.
I plan to do it again, maybe we’ll wait for Wim and Jefta to be around.
In case your road pass nearby, do not miss “les pénitents des Mées”
Wow! What a road. As luck would have it, Hubaxe’s suggestion of le Lac de Sainte Croix was on our planned route today. We took a detour, following a group of Italian bikers onto the Route du Crete and saw eagles soaring on the air currents rushing up the Verdon gorge. Great ride, but not for vertigo sufferers…Through Castellane on another great road over a barrage, but spoiled by some clown who had spilled diesel on every corner for about 6 miles, made worse by piles of sand thrown over it. Anyway, into Annot for the night and a beer, pizza and walk around this pretty little historic town. During the day, Rose got rather overheated so I stopped for her to cool her “bits” in the river…Route des Alpes beckons tomorrow.
Brilliant!
Try not to miss the “Col de Turini” - brilliant ride!
Edit: I just realised that’s quite a bit away from where you are… ![]()
Try the Gorge the Daluis instead! ![]()
Thanks Wim, I think the Daluis is en route. Wheels rolling in 20 minutes. Pictures to follow.
A cracking day out. Gorge de Dulais, Col de Crayolle, Col du Vars.
Sad story reference the bridge. In 1927, a newlywed couple walked across, originally built for a tramway, they started the walk after the ceremony, but befote the wedding night. She went missing and he was accused of murder. However, the court found in his favour, believing that she couldnt face the consummation and threw herself into the river below. Lucky for him, but not good for his reputation! Staying in an Auberge in Vars tonight. More tomorrow…
I’m going to have to tap the zeitgeist for routes and head that way myself next year, looks too good to not. ![]()
If you need routes just get in touch buddy. ![]()
Another spectacular ride yesterday under unbroken blue sky. Col du Galibier has to be my favourite col of the week. Views and twisties allover both sides. Overnight at Mont Cenis. No wifi and both feeling a bit under the weather with upset stomach. Today has been much easier on the bodies and more pics later!
One of my favourites! The Izoard is not bad either.
We loved them all, the views and the bends are all so different. Anyway, woke up to a shocking forecast of 3-4 days of heavy rain over the west side of France. We decided to abandon the Vosges section of our trip and head north west. All day riding in rain brought us to 50k south of Paris amd tomorrow we head towards the coast for a couple of days before our ferry home. I got a tpms warning and kept my eye on it until we got to our digs for the night. I found this little bast*rd in the tread. I have used a sticky string to repair and will check pressure in the morning. Anyway, cheers everyone!
Good to see the mrs. and your good self are still cheerful! ![]()
Always mate, even in the face of adversity, but in particular, every time that satan farts in my face!
You were not far from my place, but I can’t fart that strong ![]()
Looks like you have had a fantastic trip (excluding the rain). Thank you for sharing.
My bet is that you can!
A very strong crosswind on our ride to Honfleur. We are having 2 nights here before our ferry home from Dieppe to Newhaven. The puncture repair has held up and no further warnings or pressure loss. A walk into the old town and beer/cider and mussels to fortify us!
