That’s actually quite an interesting bike…1894, the Year that Tower Bridge and the Manchester Ship Canal opened to traffic

Looks like it was fished out of the Manchester ship canal

Had a quick read up on the design - the large straps on the side are actually rubber bands.
As it was based on their steam engined bike, which had pressure applied to both the top and the bottom of the piston, this four stroke water cooled (water stored in the back mudguard) petrol driven machine had no flywheel.
The pistons were therefore returned by the rubber bands pulling on the connecting rod.
No wonder they ended up in the Manchester Ship Canal, no clutch just “run and jump” and rubber bands :laughing:
