Nice article by Adrian Chiles about the joys of motorcycling.
I had the same thought when I bookmarked the article earlier. I did a rapid tour of Britain some years ago, visiting all counties without using motorway.
I know my Royal Enfield 350 Meteor can get a lot of derisory comments about it’s power but it encourages you to do exactly this.
When we went up to Blyton Park for the training day we did it without the use of motorways or dual carriageways. So much more enjoyable and as he says you get to visit some great parts of the UK, you just can’t have any time pressures and don’t just stick to major A roads like he did
That’s the point - the Guzzi was the same and to some extent the Bonnie encourages you to ride slowly and enjoy the scenery and take it all in
He went right past my house then , well within a mile or so ..!
Cow Roast was one place he mentioned and there is a pub The Artisan, that does bike nights on a Monday in the summer ..! He needs to get out this way a bit more there’s loads going on. He followed my Sunday route up to the Super Sausage ..!
As a youngster dashing around on my YB100 there is no way I’d agree with this let alone actually be saying it! Power! that’s what I needed to overtake everyone…
I was riding through Spain on my meteor on some back roads heading to Pamplona for my nights accommodation. 2 up, loaded with weeks of kit and there was 5 bee eaters on a telegraph wire, the road was up hill off camber and a worrying looking pull off into a field, but the enfield did it no problem, we stopped took photos, smiled at each other and headed off. I probably would have still been on that road on my Triumph T300’s but no way could I have done that on any of them, I’d have been too worried I’d drop them and my other half. Now back on subject, not only do I wander off roads…
Same here, I could have taken him on some real back roads. In fact I’ve ridden the back roads all the way to Derby on a push bike a few times so I know the back roads to Hinckley and beyond.
