Away to the Alps

Day 3, 203 kilometres, 127 miles

We left hopeful (I could actually see the lake from my window) in the morning destination Martigny (Switzerland).

By the time we stopped for lunch in Samoens we were pretty soaked already…

The last leg of today’s journey wasn’t any dryer, however the pass leading us to Martigny was good fun to ride all the same.

Having found digs for the night we rewarded ourselves with some refreshments and nourishment…

All in all a wet, but nonetheless fun day.

Pity about the rain, but sounds like you had a great run.

Day 4, 296 kilometres, 185 miles

Woke up to much nicer skies than yesterday.

Had breakfast, then went and visited a liqeur factory (as you do) and after that we set off up towards the Col Grand St. Bernard.

Then down into the Val D’Aosta (@Littleade), and up again to the Col petit St. Bernard.

From there down to Bourg-St.-Maurice, and up the Cormet de Roselend.

On to Annecy, after having ridden another small (and narrow) col.

From there we rode another (very nice) col, and got home to Aix-les-Bains safe and tired.

Of course we then had to unwind a bit.

After that, finally, the meetup of the mouse, frog and tiger finally took place. The three might have imbibed a bit…

Then we need to make another Alps tour.
Wim and I are now self titled “Hairpin kings”
We can take any hairpin up down left right, just rode hundreds of them in 2 days.

I thought only ladies used hairpins, so that would surely make you hairpin queens?

Nope, not jealous at all. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Day 5, 216 kilometres, 135 miles

I set off in blazing sunshine, on my own as Hubert had commitments. A friend had recommended the “Lacets de montvernier” so I’d decided to head that way. Lovely ride there, and then the challenge was on.

Very challenging, narrow road. Steep and tight bends, one after another. Great fun!

Then a nice
route back, lovely roads, nice scenery.

Good distance for the day.

Back “home” (feels like that actually) met back up with mouse and frog, went to the pub with the entire family, then had a wonderful dinner with roots in “La Reunion”. Great day!

Wow that pass looks amazing Wim. And dinner wasn’t too shabby either.

Looks more like a Trials section than a road… :upside_down_face:

Day 6, 117 kilometres, 73 miles

Not a great distance, but as time was limited (we were going to see Hubert’s son perform in Lyon tonight) I just pootled around the lake and enjoyed some nice local passes.

First up, “le col du chat”.

Then off to Chanaz, along a pretty natural canal.

Then the Col de Chambotte.

I then attacked the Col de Revard - no pictures, as it was completely in the freezing mist, and 2 degrees C.

All in all a very enjoyable ride.

Then off to Lyon - nuff said…

Wish I’d been there, but at the same time glad I wasn’t if you know what I mean :slightly_smiling_face:

Enjoy the gig. I’m off to a festival tomorrow. My grandsons band is opening the gig on the main stage. By the way they have just released their second single on Amazon music. Just ask Alexa to play Contemporary Nightmare “memories” :grinning:

Stoner metal night with 3 bands. The place was full.

Wim went to « le Revard » yesterday, today would have been hazardous. It’s currently snowing

Day 7, 634 kilometres, 396 miles

I had breakfast with Hubert, and with a heavy heart said goodbye to him and madame.

A massive thanks to @Hubaxe for their hospitality and excellent company.

I set off around 07.00, taking secundairy roads until I got to Lons-le-Saunier.

From there I hit the Peage.

That got me to Luxembourg in good time, where I stocked up on cheap fuel and fags.

I found a hotel just across the border in Belgium, where I’m sat now.

Dedicated parking for bikes!

Just under 200 miles to go tomorrow.
