Had a bit of a breakthrough on the painting front. I’ve always had an issue with trying to use a waterbased paint on an automotive primer.
But I think I’ve found a sprayed gesso that can be applied, albeit with difficulty and very carefully to enable a wash to be applied as on paper/card.
So, now I’ve welded a new petrol neck and filled that chimney sportster tank, I’ve applied the gesso and drawn on a design.
I’ve also got a new cheap set of acrylic paints (I’ve never seen or experienced any advantage to using expensive paints or brushes) to try out.
It could quite easily all go wrong still, I could just as easily fuck it up or just get bored and sand it off to start over.
But, genuinely, it’s a bit of a break through for me as this would have greatly aided all that work I used to do on WW1 water bottles, battle helmets etc.
So excited I had to tell someone, so I picked on ya’ll
Well, the new cheap paints were poo. I’ve never had that before, water based paints sort of oily. Reverted to the other cheap paints I’ve been using for years.
Is that runic halo effect? Does it say owt deep like “Listen, strange women lyin’ in ponds distributin’ swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.”
The initial impression I got was of some of Klimt’s portraits, e.g. the Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I or Judith I. I guess that’s down to the yellow circles in the background. But the facial expression and blue hair certainly then adds a lady in the lake look.
A bit chilly but the neighbour is having a bike/tool emergency. Hopefully can get back on this afterwards. So far today though…my black posca may be running out which would knock things into a tricorn hat or sumthin..
Good idea with Klimt, think I’ll get some gold paint out once it’s done (if I don’t get bored that is).
No success with neighbour’s speedway bike. He’s got a lay down Jawa that won’t start. Only one sparkplug (10 rated hot for methanol) so he’s off to find one of those as I don’t have that sort of thing in the stash.
Right, Klimt…
Not really talent, it’s really just finding something on t’tinternet (all art is based on about 4 original ideas I hear) pinterest is really good these days with all the AI stuff, tracing and painting by numbers. A bit of experience in available materials, sneaking up on what you want with the colours and extending the idea/s to complete the whole.
There, all my secrets revealed if anyone is interested in trying.
Some while ago, I was doing military stuff and showed on another forum how I completed helmets and the like. (there’s quite a bit of my stuff on the military art section if you are interested)
Got to disagree there! It’s definitely talent.
I could research stuff, buy all the correct materials and spend months doing a thing like that tank and it would still look a load of old Jackson Pollock’s
