Dolomites 2023

The bikes are tied down, car is packed, all ready for the first leg tomorrow. We’ll drive until we’re fed up, find a hotel and arrive in Italy on Saturday.
I’ll keep a blog of our adventures on here.

Enjoy a fun and safe trip. Might try to squeeze some Dolomite action in on my trip.

Well, day one. 412 miles in 11(!) hours… We were sat in traffic jams for at least 3 hours. Anyhoo, now at a hotel, 235 miles to go tomorrow.

Cheers Steve. Tbh it was a pretty knackering day. But hey ho, all for the greater good!

Day two. Pretty uneventful, just nice driving, few hiccups. The last 20 miles were a bit challenging with the trailer though. Very bendy roads, meeting lorries and buses was “interesting”.
Now at our destination, home for two weeks.

Added bonus: a locked garage for bikes and trailer!

Now happy with a beer and good views!

First ride today. We took it at a leisurely pace, so as to give Jefta (mrs. V) the opportunity to get her “mountain legs” as it were. A beautiful day.

Continued on for a bit, and then stopped for a beverage.

Jefta then announced she hadn’t had enough, could we not venture out for an hour longer?
Of course! We then set course for the Passo Sella, which turned into a baptism by fire - switchback after switchback after… A (literally) very steep learning curve for her, but she passed with flying colours!

At the top: 2.218 metres.

We then had some lunch before heading back.

All in all 90 miles, which doen’t sound like much, but took 5 hours.
Brilliant day.
