New 350 "triumph " baja

I’m a bit late finding this out but it appears that the singles will be announced in June, that’s next month… Not long to wait for those with an interest in them, i.e. me
Info taken from Triumph singles to be launched in June, say Bajaj (bennetts.co.uk)
They seem to be talking about a 250 and a 400, not a 350.

Can someone tell me what “a finger-follower valvetrain with a low reciprocating mass, plus DLC coatings to reduce friction” means?

Here’s an article that explains it well, basically it mean the valve train is lighter (they say 20% in the Kwacker).https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/news-and-views/features/bikes/what-is-a-finger-follower

Got it now. Thanks. Every day is a school day. :slightly_smiling_face:

I like the baby Scrambler. It’ll be interesting to see the price.

I agree. I think that the standard model is quite nice as well, but its looks are spoiled by that tasteless huge union jack logo at a funny angle on the tank.

If they’re “in line with the rest of the class” then I guess they’ll be around £4,000-£4.500. A plain Meteor is £4059 RRP.

Umm I think they’ll be £6,000-£7,000 dependent on model, bearing in mind the KTM 390 adventure is around £6,800 at the moment. However if they were at the price you think, I’d pre-order!

You’re probably right but if they’re trying to compete in the mass market in India etc. they’ll have to price it competitively against the Royal Enfields.

If the Scrambler comes in at about £5k I might be interested, but not at more than that.

The Trident is £7.895 so they’ll have to undercut it by a decent amount or people will just buy that instead.

The media guys in India seem to think the scrambler will come in around the price of the Royal Enfield 650 interceptor in India (here around £6,200 to £6,800) and the Street version a bit cheaper. However this is the time we can all hope, until triumph reality kicks in and squashes all desire.

You’d have thought so, but this is triumph after all. Plus I’d never consider a trident.

The Fantic Cabellero Scrambler 500 seems to start at about £6.5k which seems an obvious rival, so I think my £5k is a bit optimistic

I really like the baby Scrambler too - both are actually pretty nice I think.

I like this Scrambler but absolutely love the look and quality finish of the Fantic. I did sit on one at the bike show but found it pretty uncomfortable for me which is a shame. The display was also tiny! My stepdaughter has the Fantic Explorer though and really likes it.

The Meteor is a bit wimpy with 20.2 BHP and 27 Nm provided by its 349cc engine. The Interceptor develops 47 BHP and 52.3 Nm from 648cc. The Speed 400 sits in the middle-ish with 39.5 BHP and 37.5 Nm. The Trident delivers a massive 80 BHP and 64 Nm. Perhaps the 400 is trying to compete with both Interceptor and Meteor; a step up from one and a cheaper proposition than the other. So that would put the price point between £4,200 and £6,400. So perhaps about £5,500?

I do hope I’m wrong… I’d like a bargain triumph.
It’s a good time to be downsizing, plenty of choice and more to come, i.e. Royal Enfield 450 Himalayan and Scram, which are liquid cooled, single cylinder machines and will probably compete directly with these 2 triumph models. Just a shame the triumph’s won’t be here until dec 2023.

It feels like we peaked with the supersports bikes and now the trend is going backwards to the small singles of yore. It’s certainly making things interesting. I hope it gets more people on bikes.

According to the Triumph UK web site they’re on sale in January 2024.
