I’ve always liked singles, probably because I had three Venoms and a Goldie back in the day. (Not all at once.) More recently, I had a lot of fun with an ex Danish Army F650GS for a couple of years.
Is it pronounced baja or baha, like baja California is pronounced baha?
I’ve always assumed it was Spanish, and therefore pronounced like ch in loch, but I may be completely wrong.
As I understand it the name comes from the partnership with Bajaj Auto, an indian manufacturer. So none of the above.
Which is NOT pronounced “K”…
Over here its lough. Pronounced kind of in between the Scottish and English versions
Umm quality control not quite up to it on the new 400’s. The speed version at the bike shed’s product release said “TRUIMPH” on the tank badge… ooops… See this video at 2:10 for confirmation NEW Triumph Speed 400 & Scrambler 400X FIRST LOOK In The Metal! - YouTube
Bloody English words… they all look the same to me!!!
I see the Speed 400 is going to cost 233,000 Rupees in India which is about £2,300. Add on 20% VAT and it comes to £2,760 so probably less than half the price it will launch at in the UK.
How do these adjust?
I saw that and checked the enfield classic 350 chrome which is selling for 221,000 Rupees there and £4,619 here!. So maybe a lot less than I assumed, however it looks like the ones coming here are going to be made in Thialand so that’ll probably end up a bit more expensive…
A quote from the article “Finger-followers do not have a ‘bucket’ and instead the follower acts directly on the top of the valve [there is a shim to set the clearances]” But that’s kawasakis setup. Hopefully more details will be out soon on triumphs setup.
About time triumph build smaller bikes. Hopeful this will attract a new set of younger riders onto these and then onto their big bore bikes.
I hope you’re right but I think it’ll take more than a new Triumph to get younger people hooked. The culture in this country, and the climate, doesn’t help.
It seems to have impressed him, but journos are always that way with new releases. The sound of the drive past was a bit of a letdown, but maybe that’s just their mic setup. MCN were talking around £5200 for it although with the usual caveats of price not confirmed etc. It’s good to hear it’s not rev happy and has good torque. It’s going to be a long wait until Jan 2024 for me… I’m seriously interested but 6 months or more is just too long between launch and release here. Too many doubts will creep into my mind , I just don’t have that sort of attention span!
I’m genuinely interested in the Scrambler version, if it comes in at sub £6k.
I do prefer the looks of the scrambler and would like one but I’ve got short legs for someone my height and have really enjoyed the low seat height of the meteor, so that’s pushing me to the speed 400. Plus it has a slightly lower upswept exhaust which might help with luggage. Ideally I’ll get to test ride both, but I’m assuming the first lot will all sell out so a test ride won’t be on the cards until spring 2024.
