For what they did it was a lot of money for the repair, I think. Rosso 4 tyres aren’t particularly cheap either but it’s that desmo service that’s the killer. Never EVER buy a Ducati that’s almost due one. Not without haggling the price down.
My son’s just bought himself an 899 Panigale so I was looking at some of the YouTube videos on “the dreaded Desmo service”. Compared to doing the shims on my 2V SS it looks pretty straightforward. The other benefit is no belts.
This is the checklist for the 848. The Desmo service also includes everything in the Mileage Service OIL column, which is everything apart from brake/clutch fluid and fork oil, unless the timing means they’re due as well.
I have a strong fancy for one of those! Have had for quite a while ![]()
If you have £8500-£9500 burning a hole in your pocket, you’re in luck. I’ll be happy to deliver it. ![]()

I had the hots for a 916 back in the 90’s. The dealer was a complete arrogant cock. He wouldn’t let me have a test ride and when I asked about servicing I thought he was having a laugh when he told me how much they were. I went and bought a Blade instead, the dealer went bust within 12 months.
