I wanted to go out on the bikes, however it’s really cold and far more importantly quite frankly the roads are disgusting. The other day’s cleaning extravaganza post ride still looms fresh in my mind :scream:.

My reason for hoping we’d go out was that it’s three years today since I passed my test . Helmut and I did however go to the first bike meet of the year at HR4K (in the car) and then to a cafe I love to go to on the bikes.

I’m hoping that later this week we will see some heavy rain, which should wash away the salt and sh1te on the roads.

Still a bit chilly down the garage. The metal takes on and maintains the overnight temperatures and transfers that into hands.
Remember when playing out in the snow as a kid made hands hurt like a bugger.
So doing some more painty things indoors -

finishing off the Waterloo medal and browsing round found this:

Then also

found this more uplifting story

Because we’re here lad, because we’re here.

Today I went to buy a Keis heated gilet from the Sportsbikeshop, using my vouchers from the photo competition.
Phoned them up and they had the two sizes I wanted to try on in stock.
Arrived, tried one on and was happy to purchase but bearing in mind I will use this on and off the bike, I asked the assistant to show me where the batteries sat.
Guess what…… they don’t have the batteries in stock and won’t be getting any until September…Apparently there is one in the country that the manger is trying to locate at their new Norwich store that opens in a few weeks but they are not sure that it will easy to locate in amongst the boxes of stock.
Purchase cancelled for the moment.
So on my way home I dropped into a Bedfordshire Triumph dealer.
A shop full of bikes and stock and 3 guys managing the shop.
I explained that I was just mooching around but that I had the 5year itch with my RS 1050. The salesman must have heard this but did he get off his arse….Of course not.
No wonder bike dealers are closing….

Today I’ve been struggling with the question of whether ‘to be or to be’, or rather ‘soy o estoy’, which is the confusion I’m facing on day six of a new game I passing my time with. Said game being Duolingo where I’m playing at learning some Spanish.

I’m heading Spain in May with some friends so thought I’d have a go at picking up some of the lingo, though I’m doubtful that I’ll pick up enough to be of practical use. At least it’s keeping me busy in the cold months.

Beautiful collection. My wife has her granddad’s spurs from WW1 which he had ground the points off so they didn’t hurt the horses anymore than necessary :slightly_smiling_face:

King’s Own Royal Regt. Along with his lapel badge of the 55th West Lancs Div “who wear the rose of Lancaster - they win or die”
A shame the Star is missing.
He should be on the rolls here
King's Own Royal Regiment Museum, Lancaster
even if his awards were from the Machine Gun Corps he should still be listed.
Brilliant having relative’s awards.

I did the same before heading off to Spain in 2022. I found it helpful and I think the locals were more welcoming because I tried. However, I’d say duolingo is poor at teaching the needs of tourists. If you stick with it then it is good over the longer term. The other problem is that it teaches Mexican not Spanish. This causes issues with the 2nd person plural phrases as the Spanish use the pronoun vosotros which duolingo never uses but substitutes with the Mexican pronoun ustedes. Ustedes is used infrequently in Spain as a formal version of vosotros. But I still use duolingo!
Good luck with the learning.

Thanks for the warning. The ‘english’ it uses is also American. E,g, ‘check’ for restaurant ‘bill’, and ‘purse’ for ‘handbag’.
