What You Been Doing With Your Triumph Today

One leg shorter than t’other.

I commuted again today - lovely weather in the main. Got a thorough unexpected soaking for the first few minutes of my journey on the way in this morning, dried out and then a through unexpected soaking for the last few minutes, totally reversing the drying process .

I’m not at all jealous. Not been near my bikes for days.

It’s taking ages to tickle these Mk1 Amal carbs and there’s a lot of stand off. The stand off will maybe clear once the bike has a zoom around the block but I want to make sure the carbs are fine before I start thinking about valve timing errors.
So, even though I’d checked float height the usual way, the tickling still wasn’t right. This can be caused by the needle in the carb being too heavy (ie the brass ones - which these aren’t) or float heights. So I wanted to check the heights some other way. I’ve no idea if this will work so not putting this into the “how to” section until tested.
Took off the carbs, then bowls and re-attached the fuel lines. Carefully put the whole set up into the vice to hold them…

Leveled them up

This is where the floats are hanging when dry

And when wet

I thought about filling with water but then as there’s hardly enough petrol to raze the garage involved I ‘injected’ petrol into the fuel pipes until full. And noted where the floats had reached when they had shut off the fuel into the bowl. I could see the petrol flowing into the bowls as I was filling the pipework.
Adjusted the tangs on the floats as per usual. Sucked out the petrol from the bowls

And continued until the floats were sitting at around the required 2mm (80 thou) below the top surface

Considering I’d just adjusted these the other day in the usual manner they were quite a bit off. I’ll see if the tickling is quicker and if I’ve still got the stand off issues. It’s running fine, I just like to have it right.
We’ll see…over… :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Ride out today with Mrs Mouse on back for lunch at The Old Wharf Tearooms in Hickling, a nice place suggested by @TheRevenant

I know it’s cheating (because it’s not a Triumph) but I took the LC for an overdue MOT today and celebrated it passing with a couple of hours riding the Hampshire country roads.

The weather was perfect and the roads were quiet. :sunglasses:

A smidge under 100 miles for @HelmutVisor and I today, he rode his Nightstorm so it was a Triumph - only expedition.

We set out fairly early in this beautiful weather (I am a very early bird, Helmut not at all so my preference definitely won out today) with hardly any traffic on the roads and did a beautiful route through Herefordshire, into Wales on the A44, turned off for Builth Wells rather than heading up to Crossgates and then at Builth Wells headed towards the A438 to head back to Herefordshire. We then stopped at a bike / car meet at a local venue which we tend to go to every month - it wasn’t as well attended as usual, but I suspect lots of people are away on holiday. We had a coffee, a burger from the BBQ, sought shade in our sweltering bike kit and came home. We didn’t stop until the car / bike meet so no scenic photos but it was about as perfect a ride as you can get and I am trying to sell the early starts to @Helmut as by the time we were headed home the roads were busy and packed with enough variety of bad drivers to get your bingo dabber? dibber? (I have no idea) busy to get your Hazards Bingo card looking healthy :grimacing:.

In lieu of photos, I have included part of the route (possibly marginally better than nothing)…

The road to Builth Wells off the A44 is not one I had done before - the A481 - and it was brilliant; it dropped away downhill straight away with a tight bend and had twists and turns, plenty of straight bits and above all gorgeous scenery. Absolutely perfect. Home to enjoy a cider and the garden :+1:.

Great roads MrsV. We are often around there on club rides and solo.

I do feel really fortunate to live where we do with great roads and scenery straight from the door :+1:.

Well, tomorrow I had planned on doing a day trip to the Cotswolds, but after seeing Dougie D’s day trip in Scotland on the other forum I felt the irresistible call of the Highlands and so have just spent an eyewateringly large amount of cash I can’t afford to book 5 nights in Scotland. First and last light will be near Ayr (as far as I want to travel in one day) but the other 3 nights are near Oban and I plan on travelling all the single track roads I can find which go by lochs and up peninsulas

So what I’ve been doing today with my Triumph is topping up the oil and adjusting the chain in preparation for tomorrow.

How exciting! Love a spontaneous decision. Have fun - you going solo or with Mrs Mouse?

I just had a blast round some local roads for about 70 miles. But local roads include some laps of the Ulster Grand Prix  much fun was had and many bugs were killed. I’m back on the standard Supercorsa’s that came with the bike… my god they feel amazing! Paired with the street triples agility it is a killer combination for devouring corners!

I have been preparing for my trip to France tomorrow. Collected my grandson and ensured all his kit was all in order. Then checked tyres, oil etc on the tiger and got fuel. Packed the panniers with only wash kit to go in the morning. Hope to be on the road around 09:00hs to Portsmouth. :grinning:
