Yes, it passed. I mean, test is basically, do lights and brakes work and do wheel and steering bearings feel smooth. There’s other things too, like nothing catching or rubbing with cables coming from handlebars and is headlight adjusted right, and probably other things too. But if you’re looking after your bike properly and periodically checking it yourself, there’s no reason it should fail. (I’m possibly tempting fate, we’ll see how it goes next year
)
It was on the money for a lot of things…
We used to have something similar to this… nasty sound from the 3” speaker, tape stretch and “editing” noise/volume diferential… all of a sudden got lost after a couple of beers and a herbal roll-up or two… and then the music was IN you man! Like just a part of you…
Happy days…
My son was taking the mickey about my age the other day. “Yes,” I said, “but I am your destiny!”
He shut up.
About 20 years ago we VERY nearly missed a once a week ferry due to missing a turn and big detour getting back to port, bought a satnav when we got back home and used one ever since. I also know when to ignore what it’s telling me or when to not use it at all, but would never be without the option.
We also have Bluetooth comms, bike to bike when SWMBO is following on hers, rider - pillion if she’s on the back, there’s very little chat but wouldn’t be without the option.
Comms link to the satnav means eyes are on the road much more instead of looking down at satnav (or map/route sheet).
Tried music but like others found it distracting, I could have phone linked but always have it swiched off when riding. The one exception is if I want longer range to SWMBO when two bike touring.
Sorry @Octoberon looks like a bunch of these posts ought to be in the Touring section.
We’re off out for a ride now, satnav’s staying home today.
My boy used to take the piss, my hair started to go thin in my forties so i started shaving my head, he started the “baldy” jokes until i pointed out baldness runs on the maternal line and the wifes father is like a billiard ball, that shut him up.
Another commute for me today; got a soaking this morning “no chance of rain” said my weather app…still good though .
Did a track day on Friday in Anglesey. Weather was brilliant.
Went out for a solo Sunday ride and got soaked
The thing is, I actually enjoyed the cool and refreshing rain soaking through my Summer gear for a change. I got home and the Wife said, “what rain?”
And the track?
Our second time there and it was another brilliant day. I’ll have a look at my videos to get an idea on my times etc.
Just a clean for mine today - I would rather be riding it than cleaning it…but it was desperately needed!!
Replacing front wheel bearings on a T140. An easy enough job if you hit the right things in the right way with the right sized hammer.
Here’s the old original ‘open’ type bearings and the spindle - that needed a bit of dressing with a file due to enthusiastic hammering.
I’ve never had a problem with guys that don’t have the correct tools or even approach work in a way that allows the work to be done because there’s no money or access to equipment. I do, however, have to have a small chat with blokes who can’t be bothered to do a bit of research before they set about bikes with large hammers.
On a T140 there’s no need to use a drift to drive out the bearings on the front wheel. The spindle is whacked in one direction to push one bearing out. It is then turned round to whack out the other side. It’s pretty simple and will leave some dressing to be carried out on the spindle but don’t cane the hub. If the ally lip is broken off due to similar gorilla tactics then the wheel can move sideways and really sod up that day’s ride as the rider flies over the handlebars when the disc bolts suddenly hit the calliper.
All ready for nice new bearings. Just read the workshop manual, it’s not that hard.
…over…

As the weather was perfect I had a 9-til-5 day riding to, and around, the Peak District I ventured a bit further than my usual day trips and went along Mortimer Road (AKA the Strines Road) and up Holme Moss summit, first time I’ve been up the A6024, it’s a nice one
I noticed that the road surface on Mortimer Road is now breaking up which is a real shame. It was perfectly smooth the other times I’ve ridden it. (I believe it was resurfaced a few years ago for a cycle race.)
Just looked at satnav and it says I was riding for 6h45m (that doesn’t include stops) so no wonder I feel rather knackered. Especially as a fair few miles were down rough single-track roads.
Commuted today to one site I often have to go to for work, followed by a trip to my normal place of work and then home. The trip between the two sites is one I really enjoy on scenic, rural very twisty roads. I have always crept a bit slowly around a couple of the bends as they are really, really tight but just by using more of the road and turning in that tiny bit later as I was taught on my course last Monday they suddenly seemed far less challenging and much more relaxing . I am chuffed to bits
. Something nice about riding great roads in work’s time too, claiming the extra mileage
.
You were only around the corner from me at Holme Moss. Nice day for it - I had to work but the sunshine was tempting.
You’re right about Mortimer Road. I noticed that when I was along there the other day.
That’s a massive slope to put on a track
I think it is exaggerated because of where he was taking the pictures from. All the pictures were taken by Peter Wileman.
Does he fall over a lot…?
A post was split to a new topic: Bennetts Track Day
