Holee shmolee

Hmmm…what’s this from…

Asking for a friend… :rofl::sweat_smile::face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Its always the way.

Something that shouldn’t vibrate

yes…but i don’t remember it coming out…and I don’t remember anything missing when it all went back together. There’s an outside chance “I just found it on the floor” and it isn’t from this job…maybe! :grimacing:

Looks like one of the top radiator mounts (shouldn’t there be 2 of them)
The slot around the rubber edge allows it to be fitted into the hole atop the radiator, the metal bushing goes through the rubber with the flange outer most… The bolt goes through the bushing and the rubber squishes between the flange and the frame!

Otherwise, what bodywork have you had off?

Thanks DC… I know exactly the bits you mean…but I know for a fact that it isn’t from there as the rubbers were/are fairly tight fitting, but the metal flange kept falling out…so getting the radiator back on was a right PITA!

Similarly with the bottom fitting.

And also the oil cooler, similar fittings.

I did wonder though, it’s remarkably shiny/clean looking…most of round the radiator was pretty mucky.

Fairings wise… A LOT came off for this…but again…pretty sure it all went back!

Away from home for a few days so can’t check, but…
Could be mount for rear of header or silencer/cans?
Edit: just remembered - think there’s a mount like that at the top of the link pipe (near top shock mount) where it splits for twin cans?

I don’t think so, none of these bits…

Looks like M6 as well so nothing too substantial…

How many times have I said/heard that to find out ‘pretty sure’ isn’t definitive!

Working with screenshot from an earlier post…

This is the mounting point I’m thinking might be where they fit?

Could be a panel - or screen - mounting. Did you take any sidepanels, etc., off?

It’s a Tiger! You gotta take panels off just to look at the thing :rofl::rofl:

Nothing I haven’t removed before…and no obvious holes … But will continue to look!

Just been for a shake-down ride …and no leaks or untoward rattles…

Yeah but how’s the bike?

Whoops, forgot it was a Tiger :joy:
So reference to Speed Triple mountings not very helpful.

Wonderful… Why would anyone want a Radian!?

…back again.

Commute today, exhaust sounded ropey…

15 mins and radiator off and all the headers are blowing at the top end.

I would wager they are not seated correctly?

If you look LHS is sitting more proud than middle?

Nipped everything up…bolts were not loose but certainly not tight…

Maybe the new copper crush seals aren’t crushed at 23NM?

Not sure what to do… Part of me wants to really tighten them down (to crush the seal) but the adult in me doesn’t want to snap a stud!

Nipping them up a bit…helped a little…but I darent tighten any more!

Couldn’t see that the seals had an orientation…or do they?

None of the headers are sitting on the rims, from what I can see…they are all within the header oval as far as I can tell…

All tested just using an air pump for some back pressure…but this wasn’t a few bubbles…was an actual draft blowing by the seal…

Perhaps the nip up will make it sound better even though it’s not air tight? Or should it be airtight!?

Any thoughts/hints/tips greatfully received…

As an aside, the confidence gained in just “coolant drained, rad off, at header bolts in 15mins” was a revelation!

Is it metal to metal fit with sealant or is there a gasket? Did you fit the whole downpipe section or stubs in the outlets first then added the downpipes?
It could be that the re-tubing isn’t quite a perfect match for the originals or it could be the assembly wasnt quite done properly.

You could “double gasket”.

Thanks… It is a copper crush seal. The Headers are all one piece…I did have to pursuade one of the heads in to the socket…i agree there may have been some distortion somewhere in the fix… The welder did make a point of adding in a brace for the work though.

I will look at a second set of gaskets…out of interest is there anything else one can use or buy that isn’t copper?

Is it just my eyesight or is there another crack on this pipe from The edge of stud hole?
