I found the fork oil stuff very strange
Good you fond your shaft drive oil
Smoothingly, I’m using that
Carbs issue?
Hello hive mind…
So…after a few weeks of wonderfun riding, spirited when necessary…was engine warm, pulling away “earnestly” and up to third…bike just bogged down.
Can’t get it over 4k revs…
Seems like a fueling issue?
Have done various works to the bike (as you know) but not in carbs or timing yet.
New plugs.
New air filter.
Only use the"good" fuel.
Not sure where to start…any walkthrough or help much appreciated.
Ok. So, I don’t believe it’s a fuel tank or fuel filter issue as fuel is getting to the filter.
I bit the bullet, and an now elbow deep in carbs…
What’s the worst that can happen?
Reckon you might want to invest in one of these…
Already got an air fryer, but thanks.
Carb strip-down and clean started.
I am using that carb air fryer…
Some “before” photos…as they’re currently cooking as we speak!
Will post some “after” photos once done…
I’m thinking of one of them… looking at this… but happy to take recommendations!
It does seem that they are brilliant!
But for context…I have borrowed a “10 litre” one and have got in it …
2 carb bodies
2 x pots of all carb ‘sundries’ - for two carbs; so screws, tabs, tubes, covers etc.
This 10 litre one does seem a useful size…
As I rebuild this carb, should I
Red rubber grease all gaskets and seals?
Should I copper slip all screws?
Seems sensible to, but not sure if I need to be careful with this …
Thanks!
just new good quality seals (ethanol compliant). Not sure the grease or copper will be added value.
Great, thanks.
Just seen a vid about ultrasonic carb cleaning from someone who has lots of carb cleaning experience. It’s rather waffly but seems to have a good point about ultrasonic cleaners not being a panacea and not working well for blockages. Vid also contains a few tips.
Thanks… I think in my circumstance the borrowed soic cleaner did a fab job! I think I was generally 30 years dirty rather than a specific blockage.
Am exceptionally pleased with the rebuild…but have got an issue with throttle return, when handle ars turned to the left …any thoughts - video here
I don’t know about anybody else but I’m looking forward to seeing the final result after of all the effort you’re putting in. Even if it is a Honda…
None more than me Saul!!
Erm… sounds suspicious…
That would suggest an issue with the cable routing… creating a radius somewhere that it’s a bit too tight and allowing the sleeve to nip up on the cable. The cable sleeve may also be worn internally (I presume it was well lubricated) or the cables themselves, if worn or rusty, would have surface smoothness issues that create areas that catch on the sleeve surface where the bend radius is a bit tight
Thanks as always!
I can’t see any kinks or nips…and this is on the loose swing of the handlebars, rather than pulling taught.
To be fair…new throttle cables were on my list for replacements…
I’ll get them ordered but continue with the rebuild…carb balancing next…
It’s ALIVE!!
