A rare (only) day off the bike on Monday in Carcassonne, followed by a long one (lot of peage) to the Verdon Gorge. Slowly heading your way. :slightly_smiling_face:

Excellent! The Verdon is fantastic. Enjoy that mate, and we’re looking forward to seeing you.

A warning to anyone going to/thro Andorra, nasty place anyway, BT (and I guess others) doesn’t include it in your free EU roaming allowance. Fortunately I’d put a £5 spend cap on our mobiles (so on the bright side my knackered sim has saved me one of the fivers )

Agree with the nasty comment. There’s a little bit of nice scenery, but the built up areas are traffic bound and the pavements are COVERED in dog shit. Passed through in 2019 on the Speed Twin and will never return.

Bugger, that didn’t quite go to plan!
We’re at our destination Carcassonne and rode the first bit of mountain pass out of Andorra, even though it was wazzing down. But then satnav knew better and took us on a route west of my planned route. Ho hum, need to give it a slapping.

Carcassonne

Can you see the force field emanating from me?

They’ve grit blasted arcs in the stonework.

You get some great views riding that gorge. Loved it.

I plan to ride there in September with some friends.

Is that the home of Combe Laval and Col de la Machine?

A lot further South, nearer Cannes.

Rode the full length of the Verdon Gorge this morning then on to the Route Napoleon at Castellane. Southern end is good, gets mundane further north. We’re now at St Disdier a fairly remote village with nice hotel. Last 20km over Col de Festre was nice.

Today could be described as “character building”, started damp, got wetter, got windier. Top of the Col’s was sketchy, swmbo was not happy, but great scenery of course.
Then just to round it off the Col de L’Iseran was closed, so a re-route required. Hopefully Grand St Bernard will be better weather en-route to Interlaken tomorrow. :+1:
Edit: at least I can’t complain of getting too hot!

Beware the traffic police in Switzerland. They are not very understanding…

They will take your bike for infringement. Check out 44teeth on youtube

L’iseran closed? Whatever for? Pity, great pass!
