Pyrenees, Alps, Dolomites, N Italian Lakes

I assume roadworks, found somewhere saying it was scheduled to reopen 4pm tomorrow.
I’ve ridden it before and stayed at Val d’isere.

Last night’s hotel…

Probably because of the violent thunderstorm on the area ?
Rock, mudslide.
@Col_C hope you were away from the thunderstorm we had in the area yesterday. It impacted also Switzerland around Lausanne.

especially for foreigners. The police escort you to the closest ATM to get the money.

Yesterday turned out to be much longer than planned. Another road closure (accident this time).
Never trust a satnav when recalculating! First sent us up a blind valley, then got stuck in groundhog day, going round in circles. Drastic measures, got the paper map out! Original plan was to get to Interlaken from the west, ended up arriving from the east just to escape groundhog.
But riding the Grimsel pass at about 8pm was magic, very quiet and atmospheric. :+1:
Anyway arrived at Interlaken hotel about 9, view from our balcony not too shabby.

Today (2 night stay at Interlaken) was a loop of the passes. Grimsel - Furka - Gotthard - Nufenen - Grimsel (yet again :slightly_smiling_face:)
Nufenen may be my favourite…

Tomorrow, Susten - Oberal and a few more passes till we get to Livigno.

Wondering what they do with the bikes…

Yesterday I called in to a BMW Motorrad dealer to get the bar end bolts tightened up, they’d been working loose, fortunately spotted it sticking out a couple turns before lost. Just grabbed a tech out of workshop, job done. However as riding away an office bod comes running after me waving a piece of paper, pulled up and turns out it’s a Brit V5, with only the last couple letters different from my reg. Took him a minute to realise, then waved me off. Could see the tech guys laughing, so I think he was being wound up, thinking I was nicking (or reclaiming?) a bike in their care.
So what was a Swiss dealer doing with a Brit V5 and presumably associated bike?

Gotta say - of that lot I’d say Nuefenen, then Furka. Both brilliant!

 Yeah that is weird.

Phone didn’t get out of my pocket today so no photos. :slightly_frowning_face:
(Will post some off the camera when we get home)
Here’s a map instead…

Susten and Oberalp were rather nice. Satnav decided we’d take the Julier instead of the Albula, by which time I was too tired to argue.
Amazingly no road closures today!! :+1: :+1:

Oberalp is great! Did you go Öfen, fluela, Umbrail from there?

Missed Fluela (that’s NE of Julier & Bernina we used). But will be using the little toll tunnel out of Livigno to pick up Ofen & Umbrail, then down Stelvio towards …
VIGO DI FASSA :slightly_smiling_face: :+1: :+1:

IIRC a little bit of the Umbrail is not surfaced (only a mile or so). Great ride up though!

Enjoying the trip too much to make a post.
Umbrail turned out to be fully tarmaced, however at the lower end WW3 appeared to be breaking out between dozens of cyclists/bikers/cars to the point I actually pulled over for 10 mins until peace resumed and had the pass to myself.
Stelvio was even busier than my last visit so didn’t bother stopping, save for a quick snap.

On the way down came across a horizontal GS, bike and rider were again vertical by the time I continued.

It was then a couple of days in the Dolomites.

Bit of a faff, but I’ve finally managed to master the wifi connection between camera and phone while we’re away. So here’s a few shots from the pillion seat over the last couple of days in the Dolomites.

Said goodbye to the Dolomites today.
Now at Riva del Garda just for the day.

Travel on to Lago Maggiore tomorrow, the bike is gradually pointing homeward.

The ride to Lago Maggiore was slightly damp. :joy:

The A4 past Milan in the rain was a challenge surviving crazy Italian drivers, makes Stelvio a walk in the park.
