:rofl:Was nothing to do with France, I was asking how to get the flag next to your name, but then I engaged my brain and did it!

Today was meant to be a day of tacking neglected housework, but the hoovering was interrupted after only 30 seconds with a pop, some flames, a burning smell and the motor winding down.

No, that’s not the result of an explosion  it the result of me watching a YouTube vid on how to get the thing open. Couldn’t find anything wrong except the motor brushes are worn to the point on having no force on the commutator. The housing for motor also had a pile of graphite in bottom and the post motor filter was covered in it as well as looking like it’s been burnt a bit.

I’ve just ordered some new brushes, hopefully them being worn was the cause of the fault and not a symptom of something else, will find out tomorrow when I turn power on again with new brushes

Recon you was Dysoning not Hoovering, you obviously confused it.

If only someone would write these things down:smile:

That’sa huge stride forward for texnolojy!!!

Found that after I wrote the post!:man_facepalming:

You know the old saying: if everything else fails, read the instructions…

Well, I can’t afford £350+ for a new Dyson, and it seems to me buying a £60 job could possibly mean buying another in not to many years time. (Though how cheaply built Dyson’s appear to be after taking it apart there probably isn’t much difference apart from the brand name.)

Ah, that’s a lot of money. As far as I can recall I’ve had 3 in my life, first from my Mum when she upgraded, (I used a manual push one before that). Then my first upright, another freebie. Then a modern one where you can watch the dust spin around in, around £80 as I recall. Perhaps we just don’t use them enough because between them they’ve lasted some 40 years.
Don’t dyson do a service? I’m sure they used to come to your house and fix it? Actually, ignore that, because you’re happy doing it yourself. That was just my wary mind talking.

Been a bit of colour showing on a few chestnut trees down the road this last week or so, grabbed a picture when out with the dog as it was a pleasant looking afternoon… between the heavy showers of course!

Today I have mostly NOT been riding a Speed Triple. :rage: The weather outside is, to coin a phrase, dreadful.Squally rain - yuk. Test ride postponed to a week Friday. That’s three out of the last four test days we’ve had to bail on.

Today I’ve not been doing the hoovering are the new motor bushes didn’t fix things. I should have checked basic continuity on the motor (which there isn’t) before wasting £8. I’ve now possibly wasted another £24 quid ordering a new motor which has some reviews saying it only lasted a few months.

I reckon you’ll like that speed when it finally happens. It’s got a lovely spread of power!

We’ve had various Dysons for cleaning holiday houses, and they’ve never lasted very long. Like some motorbikes I can think of, they’ve got the style and prestige name but not the reliability. The simple old Henry seems to be the most reliable workhorse. They go on for years.
