Skating is my passion. I trained single figure skating from 5 to 16 until I faced one kind of ‘‘burnout’’. I was totally out of the ice next 2,5 years. Then I started to skate again, just for fun/myself (using public hours in the local ice hockey hall). Some girls noticed me and asked if I would like to come to check their skating/trainings (synchronized skating team girls). I’m still on that road now couple of years later.
Synchronized skating? A normal full team will be 18 skaters. We just have 8. But there are half-serious competitions to smaller teams as well. The skates will remind those which are used in ice dancing (the blades will differ a bit from those which are used in figure skating). Took short time for me to get familiar with those.
Sounds like a great passion - inspite of being Dutch, where (speed) skating is a national pastime, I’m not very handy on the ice… (and inspite of owning a Tiger 1200 GT Explorere I’m useless on gravel, too… )
Yes, Netherlands has been a great country in speed skating. I have also heard that old times you could even skate on the canals of Amsterdam (at winter times)? Probably not anymore? I have been in Amsterdam once, but that was summer time.
Yep I’ve done that - not very well, and not in Amsterdam, but on the canals in my (then) home town of Weesp (20 minutes from Amsterdam) and on the rivers.
Only tried it once….Ice skating gave me a headache.
I realised very early that it was not for me, so while the others in my group skated around the rink for an hour or two, I sat in the bar and had a drink or three…
I kept trying to stop using parallel turns like you do when skiing….not a success…!
Skating around (ring) is bit boring (I have seen that in some US-films). Common hours in real ice hockey hall are bit better. You can do some jumps, pirouettes etc. if there are not too many other people around.
First time this year I’ve played 18 holes at batting central. The course is on the edge of Wyre Forest and I saw this on the way round, quite rare they are too
When younger I used to do a lot of skating, used to wear Baur supreme hockey boots with a broken trailing edge blade !! Even tried a bit of ‘modern jive’ on ice too when I discovered dance!!
Back from a 10 day trip up to Mull Island. 4400 km in our Mitsu L200.
4 days in Scotland under a great blue sky.
Some around zero C temp in the morning. Freezing wind, but very nice again (our 3rd tour in Scotland).
Kinlochleven, Tobermory, Knock, Fionnphort, Straffa, Iona, etc.
A walk on Iona island where we stupidly decided to walk across the heights to get back to the ferry and get lost for 2 hours before finding a cattle fence we could follow down
Met some biker, essentially on GS, and a few Tigers.
I definitively know that apart from going under surgery (hip, knees) I can’t anymore ride that long, but sure I was a bit jealous to see those bikers doing such a great trip.
Now time to work. I’ll dig in pictures later to extend that nice moment.
Thing is I needed four ORANGE polo neck tops two ORANGE trousers two ORANGE overalls and one ORANGE fleece for only six days work!! Some overkill!! As it happened there wasn’t enough in stock in my size ( waiting for a sarcastic reply from someone) @littleade
