Researching “balcony roads” in the Vercors, France. The Vercors is our destination for our 2025 biking holiday, and it looks promising!

yes, that’s “la route du vertige”, vertigo road for most of you who never learned more french words than “Allo Allo” or “Oulala”

Being a tad vertiginous yourself not one for you, I take it?

Sure no! I’ll be too tempted to plunge down

Back from 6 days in Le Mans to take care of my Mum. The neighbour (now a friend) invited me to his biker club. No theme, but some of them like old Soviet sidecars (Ural Dniepr), and that day 2 of them were joining skills to fix 2 of them. And at the end of the day they worked again.

They may like soviet machines, those lovely guys did several travels with some vans to bring essential goods to Ukrainian civils near the war zone.

Bank balance is a grand lighter.
Booked the ferry, 2 weeks in the Picos and North/mid Portugal.
17 years since our last visit to the area, hoping weather and roadworks will be kinder to us this time.

We did the same in 2023. Northern Spain down as far a Porto and back again. Some fantastic roads and places we stayed in.

This evening I dealt with something that’s been irritating me for a couple of years. We have a WiFi device in the bedroom for best coverage of the house, but at night when things (Mrs Mouse’s phone usually I worked out) decide to access the internet for a prolonged period there is a very faint erratic buzzy/clicky noise. Enough of an irritation to stop me getting to back sleep whilst it’s happening.

So I finally decided to have the thing apart to find out if I can fix it. I expected it to be some inductor component that I might be able to silence physically, but as it was it was this…

You can see I have unsoldered it from the PCB, because looking up the part number on the internet I found out it was a buzzer for making sound! I guess the power fluctuations whilst WiFi was in use was causing enough electrical interference for it to be audible. Now you may ask why does a wireless access point have a buzzer? Turns out the web interface for configuring the device has an option for telling it sound a beep so you can find it. I assume for when it’s used as part of a bigger network in a office building or the like.

Finally I can sleep without the risk of the peace being disturbed

I’d had a pretty good morning sorting spacers, mounts etc etc for the zorsts fitting. Took the bike off the ramp and put it onto the side stand.
It’s a new to me stand and it’d been tried out when mounted and all seemed ok. Nope.

I managed to just about hold the bike as it leant onto the stand then continued to fall as I let go.

The cast metal is obviously shite quality. See how grainy it is. Both lugs broke showing it wasn’t just one side.

Christ almighty… good catch, hope you haven’t hurt your back like another favourite bike builder?

Yea, all ok. Thanks. I was astride it so it landed on my leg. Managed to catch it before my brain told me what was actually going on. Lots of swearing obviously.
Gotta watch where your buying stuff from these days.
