Yeah I must have the patience of a saint
I tend to keep pictures that I find interesting/inspiring etc for any future projects (both build wise and painting wise).
The well known photo of the racing Barry Sheene and Kenny Roberts has been hanging around in a virtual folder for ages.
It’s a black and white photo so I searched round for a colour one to do a painting from. I don’t think there is one.
I thought it would be the usual Barry in red/white/black and Kenny in yellow/white/black (I’m not really a GP/TT goer as I find racing that goes out of view pretty boring) but I know Kenny from his flat track 750 Harley days.
Studying the photo for clues could be seen to be the usual yellow/black on Kenny but I wasn’t sure. The site where I found the photo said that it was from 1979 but that isn’t the case.
Both bikes are Yamahas (I was expecting Barry on a Suzuki) from the 1981 season. I think Kenny had the V4 version while barry had the in line 4 version of the YZR500 Yams. As I say I’ve no knowledge of GP bikes but I think I’m sort of there.
Looking at other photos from that season I find that they were - more or less - wearing the same colours. So, it’s been quite interesting to do the research to complete a colour painting of the pair of them racing.
I don’t know what race it was during the 1981 season - I watched quite a few of that seasons races on Youtube and would like to think it was at Silverstone before Barry came off when they were in 2nd and 3rd place but I really don’t know.
@Iron you really have some talent!!
A post was merged into an existing topic: What You Been Doing With Your Triumph Today
Today, whilst booking some accommodation, I’ve been engaging in some wishful thinking and imagining riding through sunny Spanish mountains in May. (Realistically there’ll be more clouds than sun when I get there).
After this I engaged in more self delusion and imagined the long range forecast for Wales will come true and I’ll be heading there for a couple of nights next week…
Thankyou @MrsVisor - I think it’s just because I enjoy it - therefore I do it a lot - one gets better at doing things when they are done a lot. I’m rubbish on the guitar.
Yep, looks like Spring has sprung. Got a face to finish and it’s back into the garage (I know I’ve got a seized clutch to sort first).
Trying to work out if I can find the leak in my new rear tyre on the Multistrada and decide if it can be plugged
HV… Soapybrush could be your mate! Saves having to haul a wheel into a trough!
@Iron - is that a take on Sinead?
That face is fantastic!
Nope, it’s just an unknown face. I’m working on some designs for petrol tanks. Note the Trackmaster on the desk. Hiding faces behind/amongst stripes - like the gold edged pinstripes on the old T120 tanks but with pretty faces looking out - just an idea. And the last of the frames to fill now it’s warmed up.
I’ve also an idea to paint them as though they’ve been tattoo’d (no idea how to spell that) gonna try a bunch of Koi first - I wonder if I can make them look like they are swimming in water? It’s all go
I was thinking a young Debbie Harry…mixed with the parallel lines album cover…! Subliminal but brilliant @iron.
On our almost daily walks around the white van neighbourhood of Bristol to try to keep my old age pensioner fitness up (creeping up on 70 a lot quicker than I thought) I regularly have a look in one of the Hospice charity shops.
They do lots of house clearances for those pensioners who have now left us. I have a look at the old tools that are sometimes there.
I’ve no real need for any more hand tools but I buy them and try to get them back to being usable (I’d already done the ball pein before I thought of taking a photo).
These were the few I brought home yesterday. The Abingdon King Dick adjustables came up well and I seem to have bought a right heavy warhammer.
Always worth having a look - I keep the big ones I’ve cleaned up hanging on the wall. Proper good for bending stuff.
When they come to clear our house there should be some good tools down the charity shop.
After a week of this I’ve mostly been feeling cream crackered today after a seriously dark o’clock start to return back to Blighty with a suitcase full of dirty washing
Aosta again, Ade?
Nice weather, but no time for a ride.
As our daughter’s wedding in our home is in 5 weeks, madame elaborated a do to list that keeps me close to my tools, but away from the bike and from my guitars
Kitchen rebuild, one bathroom floor rebuild… And I’m sure madam has more to add to the list…
More like Piste again Ade ?
It was all inclusive, I’m sure you can work out the rest
Not this time. We tried France as the snow conditions in Sauze both this year and last has been very poor. This year at the end of Jan half the slopes were closed and those that were open were not good and it was the worst it’s ever been while we were there in the 10 plus years we’ve been going to Sauze. It’s a pity as we liked it there, especially the people themselves as they were very friendly. Sauze town is only about 1300m above sea level, while Les Alps 1800 where we stayed was 1800m asl and the ski area was far bigger too with easy links to Les Alps 1600, 1950 and 2000 as well as over to Le Plagne by the short cable car. The infrastructure was miles better too with bigger better lifts, more gondalas, better signs and they had an App with active live tracking which helps if you’re not familiar with the area. We also got reduced cost lift passes which don’t kick in in Sauze until we are over 70 which made the cost about the same at £249 each (Sauze was £230 this year). It was more expensive, but we were all inclusive rather than half boeard and as a destination we’re unlikely to pick Sauze/the milky way as our main ski holiday because of the way things are going with global warming but may return if a late deal comes up as a second cheap ski holiday. You also get the free seat of your pants final approach into Chambrey airport too . Just need to decide where to go next year now. If anyone else skies and fancy some new kit North Face have 40% off at the mo
That year was very good in term of snow quantity and quality. But like you said global warming is real (apart for the orange idiot in USA) and it’s been a few year it was not that good.
From my bed I can see the planes full of english land or take off as they fly over the lake
If another time you fly from.to Chambery, leave a message we’ll have a coffee (or a beer)… well… a beer.
But, can you hear the screams when the plane does it’s low level 180-degree turn before landing That’s kind but we’re at the mercy of Crystal the tour operator for the transfers and have to board the coach as soon as we have our cases and queue to check in when they drop us off for the return trip home but it would be good to meet up at some stage
