When I was mid teens I had a mate who was a nutter, got killed on a CX500 showing off to girls.
He was riding his push bike in a pair of denim shorts and nothing else when he crashed on a freshly chippinged road, looked as if he had been skinned alive.
Protection for me definitely

You know when you first open the oven door and you get that blast of very hot air in your face? That’s outside that is! Just ventured outside to put a thermometer in the shade of a tree as I was curious, after 5 mins it read 39.9C

I have had some nasty skin losses just from riding my pushbike at speed (well, the coming off wearing my safety Lycra 
) when I used to train hard and having gravel scrubbed out is not cool, so I don’t fancy it on a motorbike. I have also worked in A&E and on a burns / trauma unit so have seen the kit vs no kit difference in action. I always ride in protective kit and pay particular attention to boots; they can often be the difference between a badly bruised foot and no foot.

Just when you mention feet, I’ve had 2 accidents on the bike, a car pulling into my path both times and both times it was my left foot that got injured. Not badly thankfully.

I know there is a huge element of luck at play no matter what we wear, but I think for our hands, feet and heads we can stack the deck a little more in our favour.

I love a good thunderstorm!! Very hot and sticky here still; we did have rain and a cool down forecast earlier but it never materialised

Just to confirm….It’s now not too hot. This week it has changed to Too Wet.
And yet we’ve still got a hosepipe ban in place .
Todays rain is biblical.

It’ll take a lot more rain than this to fill up the reservoirs.
Reservoirs in Cornwall are still only at around 15-20%

The rain here is certainly not biblical - just ordinary everyday Scottish rain. The plague of locusts on the other hand…

I’ve never known a colder wetter Spring. It’s heading towards May and I’ve not been out once yet.
