What You Been Doing With Your Triumph Today

Oh well, took the trophy out doing local circles, same problem. Once warm it stumbles at idle, runs fine at constant throttle, but stumbles again under hard acceleration at low/mid revs. So the work I’ve done didn’t fix it. :sob:
Back to the drawing board. The pick up coil is reading a bit high, 576ohm cold, 704ohm immediately after stopping today so as hot as it should get (manual says 530ohm, no mention about cold/warm/hot). Trouble is everything I read about these says the bike just dies when hot, with the resistance reading infinite, i.e. an open circuit. Sprint manufacturing has these for £148 at the moment. Then I have a HT lead reading a touch less (4.6Kohm) than the 5Kohm of the other 3. So that’s £30 to try. Bummer, I hate just throwing things at it and hoping. Then of course there is the other coil but it’s testing the same as the new coil but…
I don’t even want to think about the igniter. I’ll use the next few days/weeks to mull it over and decide what to do.
At least I don’t seem to have made it worse!

That’s good news  real bummer you’ve still got the problem though :frowning:

@BrownMouse and others, thanks, but now I’ve had time to think and get over the disappointment I’m going to approach it as a project. I quite enjoyed working on it and the air filter was starting to bug me anyway. If I can’t get it running properly by next spring I’ll see if a trained mechanic can sort it, otherwise I’ll just work on it now and again as time permits. I’ve still got the enfield that I enjoy.
I’ve made a list!
The only fly in the ointment is if I wanted to buy either the Scrambler 400x or the new himilayan 452 before I get it sorted because I’d like to get back down to 1 bike again. I don’t really like having two.

Got a call from a mate today to see if I fancied a ride up to Yorkshire. The weather was forecast for rain, however we managed 185 miles with little more than a light shower. Bombed up the M6 for a while before heading into the dales. Stopped for a photo at the iron horse and cart.

We then headed north and cut over the moors coming out on the B6480 north of Settle. Over the top the clouds/fog was down and visibility was only approximately 30 meters at best. Made for an interesting if not slow ride.
We stopped in Settle for a brew, before heading south for home.

That sounds like a decent run, Steve. It’s been damp and miserable here all day so I didn’t venture out.

Yes apart from a 15 mile ride in the clouds it was a lot of fun.

This morning I was still feeling a bit crap from a winter virus I’ve not managed to shake off. But the promise of sunshine and fresh air persuaded me to get out and break in the new front tyre and brake pads

The roads were greasy from all the overnight rain so as I headed south I took it easy and stayed off the single-track roads. After about an hour of sunshine the south half of the sky filled with a blanket of slow moving cloud that mostly obscured the sun so I wended my way north again, trying to keep at least some of the sky blue.

As the roads dried up I started to ride more freely and discovered again how much better handling new tyres are compared to worn and cupped ones.

The Tiger and I both got absolutely soaked this afternoon. Despite setting off in bright sunshine, I ran into torrential (and non-forecast) rain.

On the plus side, the Tiger felt rock solid on streaming roads and my Oxford textile jacket kept my top half dry with no leaks. On the negative side, my biker jeans were not so water tight (unsurprisingly) so everything from the waist down was soaked through to the skin :unamused:

Helmut and I did a pretty steady few hours out on Sunday as the roads were very wet, muddy and lots of fallen leaves around, both on our Triumphs. Just a local route we know well but I really enjoyed it and we popped into one of our favourite cafes for breakfast along the way. We even got home before the rain started, which is almost unheard of for me .

Helmut and I gave the Ducati and Street Triple a treat yesterday; a full valet and anti - corrosion treatment from Moto Valet, who did the Street Triple, Tuono and Nightstorm last year Redirecting...

I am going to have the Fireblade done when the fairings are removed for painting and the Tuono will be done at the same time too.

I have ridden in such horrible weather this year that he had his work cut out for sure !

A bit rough but got it going. It’ll have to wait in the queue for bit though.
Time for bed little Ted

This is next :slightly_smiling_face: 1972 T120V

The tax on the Street Triple expires this month and it’s not likely to be ridden over the winter so I’ve taken it off the road (SORN).

Do other countries have a similar system for this sort of thing?

We used to have this, but sadly no more… The Tiger I can’t ride as of 1 december through 1st April due to insurance (cheaper)…

In France we don’t. No road tax for motorcycles or cars.
The insurance is renewable every year from the insurance day.
As I pay I ride the bike the whole year… (including yesterday under heavy rain).

Note to myself: “If I tighten my legs on the bike, I may avoid the rain overpant” is a stupid idea.

Been two whole weeks since last ride, I don’t normally leave it so long, so took advantage of the clear blue skies for a few hours riding.

Didn’t stay out as long as I might as I got too cold. Will need to start wearing the heated socks, longjohns and a 2nd jumper.

It’s also that time of year where after each ride I need to hose down the bike and my trouser legs to get all the muck off.

They gritted round our way last night

I took the Speed Twin out for a run this morning as it wasn’t raining or freezing! The roads were very slick and as the Speedy has Metzler Racetech RR’s (virtually cut slicks) they don’t exactly inspire confidence in cold slick conditions. To be fair, I never had any ‘moments’ while out on them, but when the time comes to change them I’ll be putting something more road oriented on it.

There probably won’t be many more opportunities before the Spring to get out on it now, so I filled the tank with Super Unleaded before putting it away in the garage. Last tank of fuel returned 63mpg which I was impressed by, although I was taking it particularly easily.

I’ll continue to use the Tiger through the winter (still don’t own a car) where the wind protection, heated grips, heated seat and sensible tyres are a real benefit!

I intend riding through the winter on the T120 when weather permits, but I have to admit I’m already missing my Tiger. It was much more confidence inspiring when conditions deteriorated, and the heated seat was bliss.
