What You Been Doing With Your Triumph Today

That reminds me, I need to fix the Oxford heated grips on my Street Triple.

Not today but yesterday. I took my tiger to get a winter treatment based on ACF50. Brilliant job done by Barrie from Premier Motorcycle Care. Here are a few pictures on the process and the final result. I think the bike looked better than the day I rode it from the dealers.

Looking great Steve!

It’ll be interesting to see how it looks come the end of winter after you’ve had it done pofessionally Steve. I tried ACF50 on my 1st GS and all the **** stuck to it so I took it off and used FS365 instead but that might well have been down to how and more importantly how much I applied as I suspect I over did it slightly, possibly, maybe…

The guy advised on just washing the bike down with water every now and then and in the spring give the bike a good clean. He reckons that the crud will just wash off and leave the protection in place.

I have always applied ACF50 myself, but this year I thought I would try a professional application.

It was only £80 and he throughly cleaned and dried the bike before applying the ACF50 with a spray gun. He had the bike for two and a half hours, which I think is great value for money.

Dropped the petrol out of the tank and float bowls, pour it in the Admin Staff’s car.
Parked with the others.
Half a spoonfull of oil down each plughole and kick it over every now and then.
I’ll keep the battery topped up by plugging the optimate thing in for a few hours every few weeks.
I’ll do the same with the others and they’ll all have a dust and a wake up call in the spring.

Left home on a lovely but chilly morning, down to 6.5 degC:cold_face:, heading to Hawes. Bumped into a celebrity :grinning:

Lovely views on way back towards Sedbergh

Temp reached the dizzy heights of 12.5 briefly
Home now with a brew ready to watch RL international England v Tonga :+1:

Helmut and I went on a nice ride to the Baffle Haus Baffle Haus | Baffle Culture Ltd. and back today - Street Triple and Multistrada. The weather was a bit on the showery side but not too bad; it was just lovely to be out enjoying the bikes after the weather of the past week or so :slightly_smiling_face:.

Weather calm, sunny and dry today, if a bit cool, so I thought I’d better get out for a wee run. Who knows how many more chances there will be before winter closes in. Nothing too adventurous (did I say it was a bit cool?), but 80-odd miles on some favourite roads. Up the A713 Ayr road as far as New Galloway, then westwards on the A712 past Clatteringshaws Loch to Newton Stewart, then home via Gatehouse of Fleet, Kirkcudbright and the back road to Gelston. Clatteringshaws looked beautiful in the autumn sunshine, with its backdrop of remote hills:

While riding, I was thinking about the Ikon rear shocks that I reported on a few months ago. They are nicely run-in now, and they really do give a noticeably better and more fluid ride than the Triumph originals. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade for any other Street Twins out there (or any other Bonneville, I would imagine.)

Yesterday I put the Thruxton in its vacsac for its winter hibernation. :slightly_smiling_face:

I took the Speed Twin out for a run this morning. The roads - particularly the minor ones - were very slick and mucky after all the rain we’ve had so it’s fairly filthy now. It will get a good wash this afternoon. I’m not sure if this was it’s last ride of the season, as I do love riding the Speed Twin, but I think I’ll mostly be using the Tiger now until the Spring.

Went out on the tiger this morning. One of my regular short rides (circa 1.5hours), just to blow some fresh air into my lungs. Roads were in the main clean, however occasional leafs in the road and mud where farmers have been in and out of their fields created some very muddy areas.

Headed out to Cambridgeshire today in search of some unfamiliar roads. Along the way travelled some regular roads, amongst them going under the Welland Viaduct.

I had to ride along the crown of the road where the water was shallowest (about an inch). With my ground clearance I would probably have detoured if it was much more.

Apart from that, the roads were remarkably dry and exceedingly clean, I guess all the rain gave them a good wash. No doubt the farm traffic will get busy recoating them.

Sun came out when I stopped to eat my lunchtime pasty and the last two hours riding was very pleasant weather wise.

Paying for the rest of it. Collecting from Hinckley (not there) on Friday.

So what is this mystery thing that you are paying for?

The Sprint GT I saw last week.

Ah I remember seeing that now. The 1050 is a fantastic motor. I had the ST which I loved it.

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been working on my Trophy and today I put things back together and she’s alive…Yeah… :crossed_fingers:
I don’t know if anyone has been following my ramblings this year but my problems started in April when I’d just filled up with fuel. What You Been Doing With Your Triumph Today - Triumph Motorcycles / General Discussion - Triumph Motorcycle Forum
So the problem has come and gone since then after doing some work on her and treating her to good fuel, additives and new plugs but started getting worse again. So I decided to replace the air filter ( 22 years old, but still not hit the mileage guidance to change from triumph) and anyone who knows these will be aware that it is coils and carbs off to access the filter. So it seemed reasonable to clean the insides of the carbs while they were on the bench (well camping table). They seemed ok, pilot jets were clear, carb cleaner spurted out all the holes it should and the bowls were ok for 22years, not spotless, but cleaned up with a squirt of carb cleaner. The inline fuel filters were fine.
Air filter wasn’t too bad, a bit oily on the right hand side but that’s where the crankcase breather comes in.
Onto the coils and HT leads. Aha, one coil’s HT side was way out of spec. So, a new one was bought and tested on arrival, it matches the other good one on the bike.
On inspection the faulty coil terminal connected to cylinder 4 HT lead was dull, not nice and brassy like the others. I always disliked the fact that HT lead 4 was tight and I think there may have been some arcing going on that has caused /assisted the coil breakdown. Reading the wiring diag, manual and online it appears my ignition is the wasted spark type so I’ve been able to swap the HT leads (1 and 4) around on this coil and number 4 is no longer tight. So hopefully no reoccurrence. Well I can but hope.
I put it back together today with a test fuel tank and used the gunson colourtune to see how the carbs were running. Cylinder one needed tweaking the rest were okish. Looking at my notes cylinder 1 was only 2 turns out on the mixture screw, all the rest were 2 1/8-2 1/2, so that seemed reasonable.
Now all I have to do is chuck the tank and bodywork on and get it out for a test ride. If I get anywhere I will be going around in very small circles keeping close to home because I’ve done all this unsupervised and that’s not a good thing.

Sounds like a good job to me. Keeping close to home for a while is exactly what I do. As the Admin Staff always says to me “it’ll be fine…” :slightly_smiling_face:

I have a very long list of maintenance and servicing for winter so thought I’d make use of the nice weather to get a head start, so today I’ve been sitting in the sun with my Triumph.

I took the front wheel to get the new tyre fitted that I’ve had sitting around for a few months, then set to work cleaning up the brake calipers, lubricating the sliders, and fitting new pads.

As I had access, I decided to take off the mud guard to clean it up and treat the rust. Whilst rummaging for the Kurust I found another set of front brake pads I’d forgotten I’d bought, hopefully I’ll remember them next year.
