Nice to see some good trips have been had. Nothing for me; solid weekend of overtime again. The weather has been gorgeous today as well so I had the standard regret at having taken overtime…that will vanish when the money appears in my wages though :laughing:.

Fitted new rear brake pads and changed the fluid. Then went for a short test ride and rear brakes felt virtually non-existent initially, so gave them a good work out. After about 20 mins they felt like they had some bite back, but think I overdid it because when I got back could smell cooked brake pads and caliper was too hot to touch :frowning:

Glazed, whip them out and give them a scour with coarse sand paper.

Too much fluid in the reservoir would cause that? Worth checking?

Thanks, but I know I filled it correctly when changing fluid. Perhaps I also got some fluid or grease somewhere I shouldn’t have, will give things a good clean. (Planning on having wheel off for tyre and bearing changes this week anyway.)

I do seem to remember from past pad changes that rears take some time braking in, whereas fronts seem to have bite after the first couple of hard brakes. Though there are two, two pot calipers up front and they’re sintered pads too, so would expect them to be better.

Odd things back brakes. I once changed a set of rear pads on my Bandit, went round the block and there was no braking there at all. Tried it the next day and they were spot on. Odd.

Went out on the tiger today. lovely autumn day, sun shining, cool but not cold. Called in at Oulton Park where a car track day was on.


Moved on down the lanes and stopped by this mere.

Then around the lanes before arriving at J&S super store. Few bikes out, but nothing really exciting lol.

Not many days like today left, so had to take advantage :slightly_smiling_face:

Hang a weight on the brake pedal for 24hrs, should force any air up into the reservoir.

The sky was blue, the leaves golden, and air still, so I felt the call of the Cotswolds today.

I headed down the Fosse Way to Moreton-in-Marsh then off on a cross country loop along lots of single-track roads through rolling countryside and leafy lanes. I skipped past Cheltenham and down to near Cirencester where I ate my packed lunch on a quiet lane by a tree. Then on to Bibury which included a few miles on a very narrow road (Welsh Way) which is enclosed by trees on both sides and it’s one of those magical tunnels with dappled shade that makes you feel like you’ve gone back in time to some idyllic past. After that was more of the loop to get back to the Fosse Way at Stow-on-the-Wold and northwards to home.

Scenery was wonderful, but I forgot phone, so no pictures :frowning:

P.S. I didn’t do anything about rear brakes and they felt normal on this ride :slight_smile:

Having had a run out on the Tiger this morning, I took the Thruxton for its MOT. Passed all good.

It was difficult not thinking about how to ‘capture’ images of the ride and just live in the moment and soak it up. I just Googled ‘Welsh Way’ and the top hit is a Wikipedia article that says:

The Welsh Way was a British Iron Age trade route and track-way that originally carried trade between South Wales and the Oxford area of England across the Cotswold Hills.

It’s almost as if I felt the spirit of that history riding along it :slight_smile:

Commute for me today; I started off working from home as I had a Teams meeting that lasted for hours, then had to go into work for two more meetings that had to be face to face…the advantage of this was that it was light when I set off and the fog was cleared :+1:. Had a lovely ride there and back in the Autumn sunshine - quite spirited on the way there so I could make the first meeting on time and more relaxed on the way back :slightly_smiling_face:.

Today I used the Triumph as a jerrycan. Ok I need to clear this.
In France we have a petrol strike (yes I know… France, strikes…).
Difficult to get petrol, long queues, out of fuel stations, etc…). So it’s not authorized to fill a jerrycan.

On Friday I need to drive the car to Paris. I think it would be wise to have an extra 20l jerrycan in the boot.
So, took the bike, queued 1/2 hour to fill it up, and drain all the petrol into a jerrycan .

I too have drained all bike’s petrol into a jerry can and thence into the Admin Staff’s car. They’ve all been tucked up for the winter and I don’t want that horrible petrol sitting around gathering water in either the bikes or the jerry can.
The difference in colour to the petrol is quite noticable once it’s been sitting around for a while. I hate the new Sherman corncob contaminated stuff. It’s bolloxed up two tank’s paint now. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
