What You Been Doing With Your Triumph Today

Just to be clear, it was a full English and yes @AndyPandy, there was black pudding :grinning:

Too many beans, no mushrooms or white pudding or red pudding :point_up_2:t3:

Mushrooms were under the toast :joy:

I took my Trophy out again, this time the roads seemed less greasy and the rear tyre seemed less square!

The Trophy is now all nice and clean with shiny bits. It’s had it’s first polish of the year plus another reproof with techcote acs TS200 (I had to look the name up, doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue like acf 50).

A bit grey and murky today, and 8c. But the roads were dry, so I took speedy out for a spin.

Last time I’m going to buy Avon tyres.

Nice new everything other than the hubs but the tyres just will not seat. This is the second pair of these that just will not go on correctly.
The last pair had to be run on the bike and then re-installed by a fitter before they would seat properly. We were both getting a bit windy about the pressures to try to seat them. Again, I went for Avon Roadrider and wished I hadn’t. They are now a real struggle just to get onto the rims but refuse to centre up to seat.
I thought maybe the last pair were from the boittom of the pile and were wrapped up pretty tight but these are from a different supplier and came in a large delivery batch. These wouldn’t go on so were warmed and even sat by a radiator all night with an inflated inner tube in the tyre but still no go.
Sorry Avon but I’m not spending hours trying to get tyres to fit no more.
Bloody days I’ve been sweating on these…and they’re still not right ffs. Even the proper tyre fitter with his machines apologised and gave up…

That is very poor - I’d be inclined to contact AVON Tyres direct.

Many years ago - mid '90s - I bought a pair of new AVONs to go on my 1992 T300 Trident 900. They were fitted professionally and, initially at least, seemed fine, but I did observe a reasonable “running in” period. It was only once they’d been run in and I started to up the ante a little with faster cornering speeds that I started feeling very nervous about the level of grip and feel from them.

I phoned AVON and spoke to somebody in a technical department; explained the problem and they said they’d investigate. They subsequently contacted me and advised me to take it back to the tyre supplier and AVON would supply them with a new, different tyre which would be fitted FoC.

Worked for me so it’s got to be worth a try, especially in view of the plan to cease manufacture in Melksham.

A good shout but @AdieP you know me, I can’t be arsed. :slightly_smiling_face:
This is the second set I’ve had of these in as many builds, both with the same issues.
I’d like tyres to do what they are meant to do - fit the standard WM2 and WM3 rims that have been around for nearly a century. All other manufacturers that I’ve used for tyres over the years seem to be able to manage it.
I can then get on with worrying about building bikes rather than whether an advertised set of tyres will fit correctly.
I haven’t got enough life left to help Avon.

A very pleasant 60 miles on the Tiger this afternoon. 12 degrees C and the sun was shining :sunglasses:

Went for an 80 mile ride this afternoon as it was sunny and double figure temperatures. Decided to forgo some of the extra winter layers but my toes wished I had worn heated socks. Think I’ll go full winter layers for tomorrow’s ride to the Peak District, especially as I’ll be stating off early in the cold and will be out for 8 hours probably.

Getting out every day this week, weather turning shit towards the weekend. I don’t mind a bit of rain but forecasting high winds too, enjoy.

Nice trip down the coastal road to Whitby yesterday from Saltburn.
Sunny and 9 degrees when I left but dropped down to 5 degrees unexpectedly at the coast.

Big slice of cake at this busy little cafe to compensate :grinning:

According to James Martin The Magpie Café serves the best fish and chips in the UK - is that still there?

As the weather inproves there’ll be more posts from people with photos showing off their travels. Just a reminder that the Touring & Rideouts category is for those.
