A lovely looking bike that.
I love it! Best bike I have owned
Id love it myself unfortunately it would have to be a second bike. And i have not got the pockets for that. Thats why the tiger is my go to bike, can do European trips in comfort and can play on a weekend blast.
Nowt wrong with a Tiger!
I do love it tbf
As next weeks weather is forecast to include snow and sub-zero temperatures (as ducatitotriumph spotted above too) I decided to make the best of what this week had to offer, which was grey skies but dry. Only intended a short ride but as there were occasional brighter spells ended up riding long enough to get the fuel light to come on (Not too difficult with only a 12l tank)
A post was split to a new topic: National Motorcycle Museum becomes BSA dealer
That explains a lot …
Got out on the Tiger this afternoon as the weather forecast looks fairly grim for next week. I have the first service booked for a week Monday - weather permitting!
After questioning the forum on what grease for the rear swingarm suspension linkages, I got out the grease gun and managed to get access to 4 of the 5 grease nipples on my trophy. Last one under the bike defeated me as I only have a solid grease gun hose. Looks like I need to order a flexible hose to replace the solid hose, who knew you could do that!
Serviced the rear brake, looks like I need new pads. The pistons were corrosion free and came up nice and shinny. I was going to tackle the front brakes next but have finally run out of copper grease. That 20g tube must have lasted decades. Also my latex free gloves have decided to disintegrate on touch… So I gave up and went down town for some new gloves and copper grease. Got the gloves, no such luck with the grease, the high street really isn’t the place to shop for car/bike parts anymore.
The trophy’s rear brake hangs down under the disc but despite that its pistons are doing better than the front. As I recall from the last brake service I did on the front some of the smaller dia pistons were starting to show some corrosion around the lip. Maybe they were a poor batch from triumph?
Now got to decide on some new pads, the ones on them are the ebc organic pads and I could probably do with a bit more bite. So now got to choose semi-sintered or sintered pads… oh the fun I have
This week’s weather’s turning out better than forecast, instead of subzero overnight and sleet in the day, they changed today to dry and cloud, and on my morning walk it was a lot brighter than ‘cloudy’. So when I got back home I put all my layers on (only about 3C temp) and hopped on bike for a few hours
Ate some lunch with a view of Welland viaduct…
Fingers and face soon felt painfully cold without bike gear on them.
Nearly had an “off” this morning - closest one yet.
No oncoming traffic. A poor filtering decision on my part, along the queue and past two slow moving buses; cyclist darted out in front of the furthest one.
This is not a dig at cyclists.
Was filtering at 15mph…a swift squeeze on the brake lurched me to a sudden stop…as we gave each other a knowing glance…I think we were both “oops, sorry”…as the bus driver tooted his horn no doubt watching the potential unfold in front of him.
Just took it as a useful reminder, that even in the urban jungle commute - that is my “stomping ground” you can easily get caught out…
Ride safe…even in 2nd…
Glad you dodged (literally and figuratively) that bullet/cyclist. It sounds like an example of the difference having your wits about you makes in a risky situation. I suspect there isn’t one among us who can’t relate to that.
Whenever I manage to frighten myself…
Analyse what/if I should have done better
Stick it in the experience memory bank
Move on
(If I do it again - give myself a good talking to )
Yes, very much a metaphorical splash of cold water on the face…
It’s already in the "memory bank!
Bloody cyclists
Now, now! There are a few of us on here! I agree about indoor cycling though
Like most on here, I started on pushbikes and loved the freedom. We used to ride from Bath down to Brean or Weston super mud for a swim most weekends (no mean thing aged 12-13, 70 mile round trip) we did not however clobber up like a malnourished scuba diver and ride 3 abreast, pretending to be in the alps whilst throwing empty gel sachets everywhere.
