Cheers @AdieP , I hope all the bikes sell - one, as I have my eye on the next project (shhhhhh, don’t tell anyone) and two, I don’t want to squeeze them all back in the van. I need a few blokes with deep pockets to show up
Went out despite the forecast, lovely bit of sun but blasted sideways by the wind on an open bridge across the Towy. Weirdly my wheel weights have gone rusty?? Not sure what they’re putting in the mix these days so I’ll be ordering some brass spoke weights and doing a re-balance. Baffles…? no ta.
Spent the day at the Autojumble with a diminishing amount of Triumph parts on the table.
Both the bikes sold. Looks like i could have sold them a few times over, so quite pleased.
Met Eric (aka Darkman from the other place) - we always seem to meet there, had a chat about 60’s T120TT bikes amongst other things - gardening would you believe . Always really nice to see him, he’s such a great bloke and an absolute mine of information on Classic Triumphs.
Both the Bonnies will be off to their new home at the weekend. Bye Guys, hopefully they’ll be enjoyed and ridden a lot more than if they’d had stayed with me.
Had the street triple out this morning for the first time since Christmas day buggers have salted the roads again ffs.
Bright but cool this morning so got Speedy out ready for a post lunch spin. By the time I set off it was dark clouds and even cooler
After about 10 miles it was drizzling, I hadn’t put enough layers on and my hands were cold Did about 30 miles in total and not the most enjoyable ride but still nice to be on the bike again
I’d had gearchange issues with this after the rebuild so, as usual, I had to re-index the gearbox. But I couldn’t remember if I’d actually tried it out on the road - bloody butter brain.
So as it’s sold and off to a new owner soon I thought I’d better check, so I did a few miles bombing around.
I forget what a great ride these Bonnies are, easy to rev, easy to pull up the front wheel, easy and light to steer, just fun fun fun while making a racket and annoying everyone.
I’d obviously re-indexed properly as gearchange is easy, finding neutral is easy, clutch is good, no slipping, no dragging. I was enjoying it so much I forgot about riding up the puddly back alleys spraying water and mud everywhere makes thing dirty. Bugger.
So I had to give it a wash. I can’t remember the last time I actually washed a bike. But all shiny again, It’s a shame it’s going to live somewhere else but hey ho, onwards and sideways over…
It was a cold and grey morning and after today the forecast is for a wet week so I decided I wouldn’t be getting a ride in for a while and it would be prudent to unplug the satnav cradle to save battery another week of slowly draining. Maybe it was the brightness of the clouds or just habit but when I got to the bike something made me unlock it instead So there was nothing for it but to go inside and get kitted up in my winter gear to go for a ride!
Did 3 hours of dry roads but still enough wet bits to require hosing off a mud and straw coating when I got home.
I finally got round to fitting my engine sliders today. It proved to be a bit of a faff, as the front engine bolt is secured by a loose nut, which is not very accessible. Now all good.
Two hooligans off to live somewhere else.
I keep telling myself I really need the space, damn, damn…
First start. It ran on two cylinders at least, a pilot jet cleaning could be a good idea.
Actually riding it seems to still be in the distant future. Our crocuses are not happy.
I’m sure you’ll soon fill the space.
I have had a batch of these special lightweight valves made up for my Triumph to increase the maximum revs. Let me know if anyone wants some as I have a few sets left.
What a fantastic idea, I wish I’d thought of that. Any additional benefits, you know like producing a smoke screen so nobody can see you ?
It also improves the engine breathing.
Had a run round the coast this morning, enjoyable but seen my first accident this year. Looked like a car pulled out at a junction in front of 2 bikes. The chap was sitting up and looked ok if a bit shaken. Thankfully it didn’t look too serious. But extremely shit for those involved. Probably a lot of folk heading out for the first time this year so just a reminder to stay safe.
I had a 2 hour run out on the Sprint GT today to test out the new MOTO-CNC bar risers and they do make a difference on the wrists
Helmut and I went to the local bike / car thing that’s on once a month (Street Triple for me, Tuono for Helmut). It was exceptionally quiet (probably a total of around 8 bikes and a few cars came and went). Didn’t help that it started raining just as we got the bikes out of the garage. I think lots of people are away as it’s school holidays and the Blood Bikes event in Wales is also on. I did initially fancy going to it, however they had sold out if all 500 places during the week and loads more people were planning on doing it without having entered and the idea of that huge volume of bikes on the small roads and venues with hundreds of the riders possibly out for the first time this year sounded more stressful than fun in the end, so we gave it a swerve.
I embarrassed myself after we had filtered to the front at some lights by stalling for the first time in about a year as Helmut took off as the lights changed, got a wry headshake and smile from the van driver behind me .
