My brother was a bit more steady on a bike than me and my mates. We used to joke that he got flies on the back of his helmet when they flew into him whilst he was out and about…!
Its another beautiful day here in NI so I’m going to make more hay as they say.
That’s a good ride out…! ![]()
No pictures today. I had a repeat of yesterday but went south instead and had a play in the beautiful rolling hills of Down and Mourne. Then treated the triple to a thorough wash. Ahh thats 2 in a row ![]()
Three of us did about 140 miles from the metropolis of Furness to Knott End cafe, then back through Trough of Bowland and Kirkby Lonsdale (we did NOT stop).
Quite a few out today despite early mist. Came back over a moor road I have my been on before which was hard work but stunning views ![]()
A friend of mine invited me to a small 1 day trip around there. 200 km (160 miles).
He was a pro motorcyclist for years, and carefully prepared the trip. Almost only mountain roads, some forest roads (more suitable for tractors), but the vaillant ST 1050 did it, they just had to wait for me…
3 passes, a nice restaurant for lunch, I’ve pushed my limits quiet a few times.
The only issue is for me was the clutch. Way too hard. I will remove the “reinforced springs” asap and put back the old springs, and probably build a longer clutch lever. I had to stay on the same gear anytime I could to avoid clutching. No more force in the hand… very painful.

That bike looks great. A nice day out in amazing scenery.
Here it rained, again.
I do wish Triumph would make a modern Sprint, along very similar lines to the original with the 1200 engine and electric suspension….
That looks brilliant! Great bike, nice weather and beautiful scenery.
Weather looks really good. Can’t beat a ride out with mates. ![]()
Glorious weather in the Lakes today so scratched up to Ambleside for a cold Lemonade over looking Windermere ![]()
I reckon I know that spot! Windermere looks glorious!
Happy new bike day ![]()
Black suits it, pure classic and what a brilliant engine!
Happy new bike day! That looks gorgeous!
Yep, that looks a real beauty. Enjoy. ![]()
The exhaust has a lovely twin cylinder burble to it and the engine itself is super smooth with plenty of grunt on tap.
First job is done - remove all the warning stickers! It’s nice to have gloss paint again, I’ve already applied some polish ![]()
Beautiful! Happy New Bike Day ![]()
Today I have been putting the trophy back together again after working (?) on it, for details see nob of the week thread! Then took it out for a shakedown run. It is running a lot better after the new plugs and wiring checks but it was still stumbling under load. So back to the garage and drained the float bowls, then back out again… It’s getting better, I can now put full load from low rpm to redline without a hiccup most of the time, but I’ve found that if I ride at a constant throttle around 60-70mph then shutoff the throttle and get back on immediately to accelerate it always stumbles and won’t take full load. If however I travel at the same speeds on constant throttle then ‘whack’ the throttle open it responds fine ![]()
So I’ve ordered some of my favourite fuel system treatment stuff (forte moto power), I’ll give that a go and see if there is any improvement. Still unsure if it’s a carb/fueling issue or an electronic fault. I guess the coils could be a good place to try next after the fuel cleaner as I’m not happy to dismantle 4 carbs after my last um cockup with the HT leads. ![]()
Thank goodness I’ve got a 2nd bike these days as summer is bound to get here soon, isn’t it?
